The Call Up

In my senior year of high school I worked really hard to prove I was the best. And from my point of view I pretty much am the best. From my whole book of game faces you could just tell I like to prove people wrong.

There's those people in everybody's lives who put you down whether it's a friend, coach, teacher, family members, or yourself. In my high school times some people put me in a bad mood, but this one phone call turn things around.

I just came home from my game and I scored the game winning goal and I was so proud of myself. I was literally screaming and then my phone starting ringing. I instantly picked it up and I had no idea who it was, but since I was in such a good mood I decided to answer it.

"Hi is this Heather O'Reilly?" the woman had asked me.

"Yeah this is Heather speaking... Who is this?" I was so confused.

"Hi Heather, this is April Heinrich. I'm the US women's national team coach. You're an excellent soccer player and I think you could really help the team out. Would you like to come and play with the team March 1 against Sweden?" April asked.

I was in so much shock. I couldn't even believe what just happened. I tried to act cool and I said, "Yes of course! I'll be there!" I screamed on the phone in so much excitement. I've been waiting for this day forever.

I ran downstairs to my family. I started jumping and screaming and all that kind of stuff young girls scream over. Soccer is literally the one thing I love and I couldn't believe I made a call-up.

Right then I realized what I had accomplished. I realized I worked so hard and at my age right now I'm still shocked and still proud of myself for making it on the team.
