In the thick forest of Einsam there lay the small, isolated town of Vargan. This place, unlike many, was plagued by pestilential creatures with a taste for human flesh. These creatures were known as Nao Mai, and each night these beasts would crawl from the shadows of the forest and roam the streets looking for their next meal.
In an attempt to adapt after the appearance of these beasts, rules were set to "protect" Vargan's citizens as well as to ensure the town's survival. One such measure was the guarding of essential supplies and resources. This task was taken by the town's leader Gabriel Walker. He was a tall, intelligent man loved by all people, and had been guiding them since the rise of the Nao Mai. Knowing the beasts would attack their resources, he determined that they could not go unguarded. Hence the towns supplies were kept in a safe house at the center, which just so happened to be his large and guarded estate. Many were happy with this, happy to know that their necessities were safe, but none seemed to consider what would happen if one person were to have so much power. Nor would anyone care, or at least not for a long time.
It has been 20 years since the arrival of the Nao Mai, and things have still yet to change. The people's supplies were still controlled by Walker and his supporter, and the beasts still kept coming. The Varganese had become conditioned fools, assuming they were safe within their rules and ignorant to the true dangers of what could possibly come in the future from the Nao Mai. However, this story does not follow them. It does not explain the lives of the ignorant, the ones who pretend that they are living in bliss. Instead we will meet the anomaly, the living corpse, Jade Hoffen.
