-Vita's POV-
Vita had ran and ran until she could not take another step. She found herself huddled inside of a
small cove in the side of a cave. She had probably covered a few leagues in her haste. Even now
she imagined the guards searching for the one responsible for this crime. In elven law if someone
is at all engaging in any form of activity with someone when they die, then they are guilty and put
to death. All the Queen needed was a reason to put her to death. All of the elves looked down upon
cross-breeding.
But, humans were thought to be the downfall of the old world. Humans were very rare these days
and if there ever were any, they were slaves. Humans were considered an inferior race, and she
was even lower because she was only half. Vita sighed and curled herself into a tighter ball.
Sudden sounds in front of the cave made her freeze in fear. Her heart started to beat fast as
someone or something made its way into the cave- straight towards her. She held her breath.
A large hand groped into the side of the rock face and her eyes widened and her heart beat faster.
Someone whispered softly and the hand grabbed her arm. The hand pulled her out and Vita
yelped. The hand belonged to a wonderfully chiseled body. The body belonged to a handsome
young male elf. She gulped. They had found her; now what? She shielded her face and
whimpered. The male murmured softly. This only made her more scared.
"Who are you? Show your face." The male said in an almost caressing voice. "I want to see your
face. Please?"
For whatever reason she couldn't resist the voice and allowed herself to look at the man before
her. The man gasped and paled. Vita looked to the ground. Now the man knew what she was.
Some thuds in front of the cave entry made her look to it in fear. Footsteps. This man is a soldier!
The soldier quickly looked from her to the cave entrance and shoved her towards the cove hastily.
Vita's eyes widened and she took no objection to this sudden change of mind. One moment the
male looked like he was going to kill her, and the next he was hiding her! She quickly crawled
back into the corner and held her breath when the footsteps approached to just in front of her.
If you looked from just the right angle the cove was not visible. Ugh, she was doomed! This man
was just quickly as to give up her location as to keep her hidden,
"Commander?"
"Yes, sir?"
"Any sign of the girl? The Queen wants her found."
"No, sir."
"Okay. Check back in three hours via radio."
"Yes, sir."
With those last words the second person left and the man came back to her. He pulled her out
again and held her arm with one hand and grasped her chin with the other. The man slowly
leaned in towards her. Her eyes widened and she thrashed. The man held her tighter until her
arm started to ache. All of her instincts were yelling at her to run. Instead of hurting her, the
man simply leaned in and kissed her.. forehead? Vita tensed in surprise.
The man noticed and he let her go quickly. He cleared his throat and gulped. He had thought he
had done something bad, wrong. Apparently he was the commanding soldier in the militia unit
for her village. That was a pretty big position. So why would he risk it by talking to someone so
low as herself? Vita was so confused by all the things that had happened. She swallowed past
the lump in her throat.
"What is your name, girl?"
"The likes of me does not go by a name, sir."
"I did not ask that. Just tell me your name."
"My name is Vita, sir."
"Vita, eh? That's a beautiful name. It suits such a pretty girl like you."
"I... I am grateful for your kind words. A lowly half breed like myself does not deserve such
nice things from some great soldier like yourself."
"Stop. Do not lower yourself to what they think of you. You are a magnificent female."
"Sir?"
"Do not call me sir. Come here. I want you to show me where you found that stone."
Vita nodded slowly and went up to the male. She slowly walked towards the entrance of the cave
cautiously. The man shook his head and told her that the other soldiers would be gone by now.
Vita just watched him. What did he mean? Would he protect her? She took a step out and
began to run in the direction of her garden. She could very well still be turned over if the man
chose to. He ran behind her.
She eventually came to the opening to her garden and ducked behind the first few vines where
she knew she would be well hidden. The stupid man bumbled around trying to find her. In her
fear a certain cocky confidence filled her and she decided to ask a few questions of her own.
Besides, there was a small bog right underfoot if you did not step just right. The bog was so small
that you could sink about waist high and no further. Perfect for her.
"Who are you?"
"Where'd you go? Ugh!"
"Who are you and maybe I shall tell you. I have many questions to ask and you apparently have
some to ask of me. Why do we not ask one each, answer and ask the other?"
"I suppose. If that is the only way to get you to come out?"
"It is."
"Fine; what do you want to know?"
