Rebelling

I take everything back. I swallowed all my pride and I darted out the room. More laughter echoed behind me but I didn't care. The name I had heard so much about, the one everyone has been talking about. Every time I heard it, it was with fear or regret, and I was standing not one foot from him. Hell, I slept with the man.

I did t know where to go, his words of the Victorian Family still haunting my ears. I didn't feel safe anywhere. Before I knew it, I found myself at Daemon's door, the only area I could think of.

Gods please let him be here.

"Angel?" He said as I practically knocked down his door. "What's wrong?"

I didn't hesitate to dash into his arms, the safe haven incasing me. I shivered in his arms and he stroked my hair calmly.

"Can I sleep in here tonight?" I whisper. He stiffens looking down at me puzzled.

"Of course," he said without a doubt.

I followed after Daemon for the next day all day like a little lamb. I didn't want to leave his side at all, and he seemed pretty content with that.

I noticed he was pretty much avoiding his family. Whenever he saw a member he'd casually turn another way, which wasn't a bother to me. I really didn't want to talk to anyone at the moment. I simply decided that he was avoiding his family to let them heal from what they've suffered lately. Everyone's been so clouded no one was even trying to think of the arranged marriage I was supposed to have with James.

I refused to think of what I ran away from yesterday. I refused to think of anything Kaden told to me. Even if it wasn't a lie, I'd make it one. It's not like I truly had anything to worry about right? What could kill a Victorian?

Other than that beast that attacked Erica...

It was 6:00 in mortal time, and time for the family dinner. I was anxious to see what tactic he'd use to get out of this.

"Get dressed," he ordered me.

"What? Why?" Gods, I hope he isn't going to make me have dinner with his family again. The vile taste of human meat resurfaced in my mouth. I couldn't imagine how awkward it would be to sit in front of the very people I couldn't trust and attempt to eat.

"Trust me, put on something nice," he said steering me towards my room.

"You won't go very far, right?"

"I'll stay right here if you want me to," he chuckled.

I nodded and shut the door steady and quietly.

"Hi!" An enthusiastic voice said. I beamed a great smile when I saw Dimitri reclining on my bed painting his nails. But my smile faltered when I saw Moreau standing near my bed side. He looked refined and gentlemen-like again. The complete opposite of what I saw last night. He stood with his hands behind his back, his posture stiff and straight, and his face emotionless.

"Shhh! Daemon's right outside the door," I whisper at Dimitri. "What are you doing in here?" I directed the question to Moreau but Dimitri answered instead.

"I slept in here."

"Why?"

"Well you see, I had a horrible nightmare last night. So I came in here to sleep with you...but you weren't here," he cried dramatically. "It was just Ginger, left alone in your cold dark room. She was crying and begging for help when I found her, isn't that right Ginger?" He addresses the teddy beat he gave me. "Yes Dimitri, I was all alone," he voiced for the bear using a high pitched voice.

"Where were you?" Moreau asked.

"I was in Daemon's room, I slept in their for the night."

"Why?"

"Because I was freaked out about your little men's celebration," I snap.

"Angel, what are you talking about?" Dimitri said confused.

"Why were you afraid?" Moreau spoke again. "Jame said no one would hurt you."

"Why are you in my room anyway?" I snap.

"I just told you," Dimitri chuckled.

"Not you!"

"I'm keeping an eye on Dimitri."

"Why?"

"Kaden told me to."

"Angel I'm not understanding this," Dimitri said looking at me like I was insane.

"Get out!" I yell at Moreau.

"Why?" Dimitri cried. "Do you think I'm mad at you for sleeping with Daemon? Cause I'm not. I just thought you got over him when you sucked faces with Moreau."

"Dimitri!" I scolded my cheeks blossoming roses.

"What? His wife already cheated on him, why should you feel guilty?"

"Dimitri shut up!" Moreau arched a brow at him, but other than that he didn't really seem to care.

"I need to get dressed." Moreau stood quiet and unyielding and I narrowed my eyes at him.

"I can leave Dimitri," he stated sternly.

"Go ahead and get dressed," Dimitri said.

"I can't!"

"Why I've seen you naked already Angel. There really aren't any surprises."

"But, I--" I pause, an angry thought coming to me."Why is it you've seen me naked but I haven't seen you naked?"

"My nails are wet! I can't take out my clothes!"

"Thank god." Moreau sighed.

Strange, I'd think that if Dimitri got a chance to take off his clothes in front of Moreau he'd definitely take that chance.

"Here, I'll help you pick something to wear, then you can get dressed." He said.

"You do know Moreau is keeping an eye on you, right?"

"What are you talking about?"

"Angel, don't," Moreau warns.

I sigh exasperated, a horrible realization dawning on me.

Dimitri can't see him.

"Yeah," I continue. "He's standing right beside you right now. He's doing the same thing Seth and Mara can do."

"Shit! Really?" Dimitri said stunned looking around the room. "Well now I'm definitely taking off my clothes.

"You look pretty," Daemon compliments opening the car door for me.

It took a while for me to get Moreau out of my room to get dressed, but he left as soon as Dimitri was half naked. After waking up naked with two guys flanking me, I don't think I can be naked in front of another guy for a while, with the exception of Dimitri.

"Thank you," I smiled. I dressed simple with a little silk blouse and skirt, pretty much sick of wearing so much lace.

We weren't using Alex's car. This one was different. The doors opened up instead of sideways, and it was a sleek black on the outside.

"So who were you talking to in your room?" He asked as we drove down the road.

"You overheard?" I blink fiddling with my skirt.

"Yes. You were pretty damn loud. Practically screaming."

"What did you hear?"

"Just you talking."

"You didn't hear Dimitri?"

"Dimitri was in there?" He mostly groaned. I curse my brain for not censoring my words before they left my mouth.

"We're just friends," I explain.

"You spend way to much time with him. Who else was in there with you?"

"Seth," I lie.

"Your imaginary friend? Because I heard you say something about Moreau."

"Did you hear Moreau say anything?"

"No."

"Exactly."

He sighs unsatisfied with my answer. I hated having to lie to him but what I said now sounded more believable then truth.

We drove for another good ten minutes before pulling in front of a lovely building. There were stone statues outside it, and lunar flowers bloomed around it. We walked up the paved steps and Daemon held the door open for me, directing me inside.

"What is this place?" I said eyeing the beautiful decor. There was a huge glass chandelier dangling above countless white clothed tables that were filled with people. There were several waiters all beautifully dressed scuffling about, and peaceful violin music was being played.

"It's a restaurant, I thought you might like it."

"It's gorgeous," I said in awe. A waiter came, dressed in a fine black suit and lead us to a table by a large arched window. When he was about to leave to allow us to think over what to eat, he paused, eyeing me like a spectator, then left. I assumed it was because I was a mortal girl in an expensive restaurant meant for Royals, and left it alone.

"What do you want to eat?" He asked handing me a small menu of dishes.

I look it over, and most of the words aren't in my vocabulary. I could barely make out what they said, it was like I was reading another language.

"I can't read this," I sigh.

"I thought you were learning..." he said as I handed him back my menu. I was until my lesson with Moreau came to an awkward stop since I died, and you threatened to kill me.

"I stopped my lessons with Moreau a while ago," I said emotionless shortening my answer. "So why did you want to eat out?" I said changing the subject.

"I just thought you might enjoy it. Plus with everything so complicated with the deaths and everything--"

"You're not sad about Erica?"

"She tried to hurt you, Angel. Why do you care."

"Any death is a travesty."

Just then the waiter comes and places water in front of us. His eyes linger to me far to long and I awkwardly look away fiddling with the table clothe. He then pulls out a pad and waits for us to order, the heat of his gaze never faltering from me

"What will you have to eat, sir?"

"We'll both have the sirloin steak, medium rare." He nods at Daemon and gives me one last glance before he retreats away.

"We're not eating people right?"

"No, it's a different kind if meat. I wouldn't make you eat another person."

"You've done it before," I mummer.

"So what's with you and your imaginary friend?" He asked out of the blue. "Seth right?"

"What about him?" I ask not interested in the subject. I missed Seth, but from what I saw last night, he's a follower of Kaden. He didn't even give me one glance. Like he was trying desperately to ignore me.

"Well you seem to talk to him a lot, what does he look like?"

"Why do you want to know?"

"Just curious," he said casually.

"He's tall....he has auburn hair...his eyes are..."

"Hazel?"

"How did you know that?" I snap.

"I've been seeing hazel eyes a lot lately," he replied. "Even Jocelyn is sporting them."

"Funny, I didn't know you paid so much attention to her."

"I could say we speak as much as you and Dimitri, but that'd be a huge exaggeration," he scoffed. I scowl at him and he sighs exaggerated."I won't go near her if it really bothers you."

"You make it sound like its a big sacrifice."

Daemon sighs rolling his eyes. The waiter finally comes with two dishes beautifully perpared in his hand. Again he looks me over, as if examining me, then retreats. what is his problem? My stomach groans at the smell of my food and my mouth waters distracting me.

"You don't have to stop taking lessons with Moreau if you don't want to,"

"Wait, so you're not cautious about Moreau, but you hate me around Dimitri?"

"I hate the thought of other people making you happy," he admitted.

I blink a bit taken back. First he says he wanted to kill me, then he wants to take my soul, then he doesn't want other me people bringing me joy?

"Why?"

"Because I want to make you happy."

I tried to contain my smile but I couldn't. And as always a bush of roses followed through on my cheeks. I hated when he went from dark and mysteries to sweet and gentleman like. It was annoying yet charming at the same time. I couldn't understand his simply difficult personality sometimes.

"You know you're adorable when you blush," he grinned. I took a fork full of my food and shoved it in my mouth.

"That's not fair. I was just mad at you a few seconds ago," I groaned.

"You shouldn't worry about what's in the past." He said drinking from his glass.

I pretty much scarfed down my dinner in one peace. I haven't really been eating much lately. With everything going on I've had the biggest knot in my stomach.

As we were about to leave Daemon pulled aside for a moment to answer a quick phone call, leaving me standing awkwardly alone.

"You're Angel, aren't you," our waiter said to me. I looked at him confused examining his features. His blonde hair gave me a chilling reminder of James, but other than that I didn't recognize him.

"How do you know my name?"

He extends a friendly hand towards me and I hesitantly take it. Suddenly a burst of warmth washes over my hand and my eyes dart to his, and that's when I notice his irises are hazel.

"It's an honor to finally meet you, Angel," he says with a grin. I snatch my hand away and stumble back, turning to find Daemon.

He was outside deep into a discussion on his phone, his eyes holding seriousness. He nods for me to come, and I follow him towards the car. He didn't open the door for me this time, instead he rushed me in and quickly started the engine, stepping on the gas.

"What's wrong?"

"We need to get back. There was an attack on the Mansion." I freeze in my seat, Kadens words coming back to haunt me. "We think it was the eastern Royals," he sighs.

"Are they still attacking now?" I breathe, my fear rising. This is my fault. I should have taken everything more seriously. I should have warned him about everything, starting with the beast of the gardens I saw. I mentally curse myself for holding my tongue.

"No," he replied. "The attack only lasted a few minutes. But there were several casualties."

"What casualties?"
