"Sammy? Why are you doing this!" I yell as I sprint to Milky. He calms down as I approach but is still lashing out with his hind legs. I stroke his muzzle gently as Sammy gets off.
"We need the money. He's not earning his keep."
"But I give you all I get!" I felt like crying, what did he mean?
"It's not enough. It's not like you own him. I'm sorry Case. We have to sell him. You've been jumping him high, his dressage is good..." He sighs, "we'll get a good price for him."
"NO!" I start crying, "no...no...no...no!" I sob. "How could you..." I cry.
"I'm sorry Casey. We have to. It's him or our land - all the horses. All the grooms. All our hard work."
Without thinking I swing myself onto the saddle. Urge Mil into a gallop and we clear the fence. Racing off up the road.
My heart broke as we galloped. If he left my one true love would leave, forever.
Tears streaked my face. I'm pretty sure my cheeks had lines from dirt and salty water running on them.

I sat in Sam's office. The horsey pictures glaring down at me.
"So you want me to help you..." I gulped, "sell Milk?" I said forced.
"Yes. All we're asking..."
"Fine." I say emotionlessly. If he went to a great home it didn't matter. Right?
