CHAPTER 1
"Mommy! Come look, Case and me we made a sandcastle!"
"Oh sweetheart it's wonderful! Let me go get your father. Mike!"

"Quinn!" My brother yells while shaking me awake. I growl at him for ruining one of my good dreams. I open my eyes and look at him and instantly his faces falls, "You were dreaming about Mom again weren't you." I grab his hand knowing that he feels bad now, "It's okay Casen, you didn't know." I say sadly. How would he, I mean it was my dream.
I toss my legs over the bed and show my brother out of my room so I can get ready for school. It's my junior year and my brother's senior year. I'm not sure if I'm really feeling it or not but I know my dad will force me to go either way.
Throwing my hair up in a quick bun, I walk to my bathroom to wash my face and brush my teeth. Looking into the mirror I can already see the dark circles under my eyes from the lack of sleep I receive every night. "Thank god for makeup." I mutter to myself while putting on my foundation and concealer. I move on to my eyes and blend a few different shades of brown on until I'm satisfied, mostly to draw attention away from the bags under my eyes that are still visible, but still making me look natural. Taking my hair out of the bun, I take a brush through it quickly before throwing it right back up and getting dressed.
Oversized white crew neck sweatshirt and black leggings are all I have the effort to put on. I throw on my black docs and head downstairs. "Q are you ready to go?"
"Yeah Case, just let me say goodbye to Dad first."
I walk into my Dad's office and stand by the door waiting for his call to be over. After a few seconds he turns around and looks at me. "You look so much more like your Mother everyday Quinny you know that? She would be so proud of the women you've become." He tears up a little and I go over and give him a hug.
"I love you Dad."
"I love you too Q bug, have a good day at school sweetheart." I smile at the nickname and meet Casen at the car.
Casen is casually sitting in the drivers seat flipping through the different music stations. I'm about to open the passenger door when he points to the back. "Q, we have to get Colton and Brooke. You're sitting in the back." I roll my eyes and get in the back. Got to love tradition. Ever since elementary school we have always gone to school together on the first day.
We drive the few minute drive to the Evans' house in silence because Casen couldn't choose a station. "Are you okay? You've been really sad and quiet today." He asks me, briefly looking at me before reverting his attention back to the road.
"Yeah, I'm just a little tired." I respond and look out the window.
"Quinn don't give me that bullshit excuse. If there's something wrong you can tell me." That's the thing, I don't know what's wrong. Is a person not allowed to have an off day?
"Not if the person is you." I look up at my brother confused.
"Did I just say that out loud?" I ask.
"Yes Quinn, you did. Now are you going to answer m-" Thankfully my brother is cut off by the back door opening and high pitch squealing from Brooke.
"Quinn!" She leaps into the car, wrapping me up in a hug. Give all credit to Brooke for being the best, best friend in the world not only for saving me from my brother's overprotective ways, but for just knowing when I really need a hug. I think that's my favorite thing about her. She doesn't need to know what's wrong with me to know how to make it better.
