Chapter One

So I know this story is supposed to be 'ON HOLD' but I just had a bit of time - it being the first day of Easter and me having received no homework except revision - and so I thought I'd do a bit and it ended with me finishing this chapter! Woop!! :D

I wake up from my nightmare as cold as ever. I say nightmare. It's a memory. A memory of something horrifying, just as it always is. A terrible, horrible memory that I have to live with knowing, and all the while reminding myself that I cannot help everyone. I maybe a savant, but I'm not a superhero and I can only do so much.

A cold breeze chills me as I get out of bed and I realise the window is wide open. Who opens a window in this weather? I shake my head and move over to the window to close it. As I pass through my doorway I grab my dressing gown, which was hanging on the hook next to it. Everything is exactly where it should be. Everything is in it's place, where I know I'll be able to find it so I have no reason to panic about losing anything because I should always know where things are.

Downstairs in the dining room I hear my siblings laughing. They're so immature and with me being to the youngest, I'd know. They sometimes act younger than me! I laugh at the memories that spring into my mind. It being a Monday morning and all, it means everyone is home because they slept over after the family day we had yesterday (this happens every week and no one ever complains about being taken away from their Sundays).

I go to the kitchen and grab the toast and jam my mum left on the side for me. I then take it up to my room and eat it whilst deciding what to do with my hair, what makeup to wear and what accessories will go with the outfit I set out last night. I had decided that I wanted to wear a pair of light-wash, blue skinny jeans and a peach lacy blouse. In the end I go with natural coloured make-up, leaving my hair natural, too, and a gold chain and gold heart earrings.

I head back downstairs once I'm dressed and I check I have everything in my bag. Then it's time to leave for hell. Sorry, school. My dad usually drives Eclipse and I so it's not like we have miles to walk or anything, but once we're there we have to sit through lessons and then navigate the social hierarchy and it's a very tiring experience.

"You look tired, sis. Not get much sleep last night?" Eclipse asks me, as we get into the car - he called shotgun, again. I raise my eyebrow at him.

"He's being serious, Iris. You look like you've been awake for the past week, at least" My dad tells me. I sigh. They know I never sleep well. So why don't they just shut up asking?

We arrived at school not long later. I hopped out the car and after saying goodbye to my dad, made my way inside with Eclipse by my side. Unfortunately, we have separate forms so we're separated straight away, as the bell goes just after we walked through the doors.

My form teacher is the most amazing teacher ever. She is also one of my three art teachers, so I get to do a bit of artwork for twenty minutes each morning. I sit with my school friend, Payton, and her twin brother, Maxwell. Payton is in my art and art history classes, but she takes history and media studies, instead of literature and philosophy with me. Payton and I have been really close ever since we started secondary school five years ago.

After form I have double art history, which is pretty boring, so I just make doodles next to all my notes throughout the lessons. At least I have Payton with me in this class, and the two of us always manage to have fun. However, as the end of the second lesson approaches the head sixth form, Mr Smith, enters the room, "I'm terribly sorry to interrupt, but I am here to inform of an important piece of information... You all have the rest of the day off school!!" The class breaks out in a load of noise for a few minutes, but then he gets us back under control, "Unfortunately, someone flooded the toilets and so it is unsafe for us to allow you in the school until it is cleared up. I hope you enjoy your day off, but don't forget to do some work! I can assure you that you will have catch up work for the lessons you are missing"
