Just so you know. I don't own any of the things to do with Savants, okay? I just came up with the caharcters names and the story plot. All credit for the Savants goes to Joss Stirling. You don't have to read the books to read this but I think it'd help you understand what Savants can do, and what Joss Stirling's actual idea is.

Savants.
We're human. But....
Well, it's pretty hard to explain. As a savant, there are things I can do, that normal humans cannot do; such as telepathy. Someone without the savant gene is unable to hear the voice when you attempt to speak telepathically to them, however they do get a sort of impression of what you try to talk to them. It not just telepathy, all savants can also do telekinesis - moving things with one's mind. On top of that: each savant has a gift. There are a wide range of known gifts. I've met healers, and danger sensers, future tellers and past see-ers, mind readers and shielders. Well, all savants can shield but some are better than others. Some are so strong they can turn invisible! There are many other gifts, as well. I know of a guy who can set things on fire, oddly enough his soulfinder can freeze time.
That's something else I must mention: Soulfinders. I guess the name most people would actually use for them is soulmates or something of the like; but for us - savants - the one person who we can give our whole heart to, is our soulfinder. Of course you can fall in love with anyone, but it will never be the same as being with your soulfinder. Using your gift with your soulfinder makes the two of your more powerful, you can push the boundaries more easily.
But there is one problem, your soulfinder is conceived at the same time as you. Meaning you can never really know until you meet them, what with the factor of premature and overdue babies. And then the factor that is: they could be born anywhere in the world. What if you live in the south pole and them in the north pole?
A savant not finding their soulfinder can be disastrous. Unfortunately it is rare to find your soulfinder before you start Spiralling. That's what my parents call it: it's short for Spiralling Out of Control. They call it this because a savant without their other half can became depressed, angered or worse. Although some do just accept it and throw themselves into other aspects of life to distract themselves.
And there's no way to cheat into finding your soulfinder. I've heard of people who are attempting to make a device to help those soulfinder-less find their soulfinders, but nothing's worked so far. Those who are blessed and know someone with the gift to find soulfinders are lucky. They don't have wait as long. For those who don't, well.... All they can do is be patient and not give up. To go looking for your soulfinder is stupid. There's no way you can guess where they will be. You just have to live your life and wait.
So now you know about savants, let me tell you about me and my life. My name is Iris Valentine. I am sixteen years old. I have four brothers and three sisters. We live with our parents in Sheffield, England. I attend my local sixth form, with one of my older siblings. The rest are all already at university. My eldest brother, Leopold, is twenty three. He runs his own business, a gym, where he and the other instructors teach people fitness and self defence. His soulfinder and wife, Poppy, is the sweetest person I have ever met. They met three years ago, when they were both at the University of Sheffield (mum and dad won't let any of us go too far on our own so we're all just stuck here). Poppy is a baker, and she works at a local bakery. She brings us fresh cakes and pastries every Sunday when they come home for our family day. Leopold is super overprotective of us all, but Poppy balances him out, always making him think about the situation before rushing in, fists flying.
Aisla is twenty two, and is my oldest sister. She is a primary school teacher. She hasn't yet found her soulfinder, and is happy to continue living single. I reckon that it will take quite a while for her to start Spiralling, as she is always so positive and happy. She lives in a house closer to the city centre - as her job is not in our part of Sheffield - with two of my other siblings, Crispin and Nikala.
Crispin is twenty one and insists we all call him Chris, you can understand why. In school he got called Crisps and Walkers a lot, which he disliked with a passion (a.k.a hated). He is studying architecture at the University of Sheffield. He also dislikes living in the same house as Aisla and Nikala - not only because they gang up on him and always get their own way, but because both of them are pretty high maintenance and he is the only guy they see on a regular basis.
Next is twenty year old Nikala. She is studying politics at the University of Sheffield, and she is just as serious as that suggests. Completely a goody-two-shoes, straight-laced teacher's pet. In every aspect of life. It gets very tiring. But don't get me wrong, I love her. She has the best taste in music and when we were little she would turn the volume up and we would dance around the garden until we were unable to move.
Forrest is by far the "softie" of the family. He is nineteen and studying to be a physiotherapist at university. Whenever any of my siblings is upset or just generally in need of someone to talk to, they go to Forrest, as do I. He is always so understanding and cuddly and has the greatest advice.
Keanah is eighteen, and by far the most rebellious of us all. Her life revolves around music. Specifically heavy metal and that sort of thing. She dyes her hair at least once a month to a new, bright, blend of colours and has the most outrageous taste in fashion. Underneath all of that, however, she is one of the most kind, delicate and down to earth people I know.
Finally there's, Eclipse. He's seventeen and attends the same sixth form I do. However the subjects we are taking are so completely different. He's studying maths, biology and sociology. He is literally so smart and funny. Without a doubt he is my best friend, no matter how different we are. He's actually a total ladies man, as well. Which confuses some people. He's so intelligent that there is no way he doesn't fit into the geek category, but his good looks and generally amazing personality mean he isn't. Don't get me wrong, he may have loads of 'friends' but I'm still his best friend.
As the youngest, I guess you could say I have a lot to live up to, but my parents never expected me to be anything like any of my siblings. I guess you could say, I am the stereotypical arty type. I am a pretty relaxed person, and - I am told - that I always look "perfect". However, I don't believe that perfect actually exists, so I guess it's just that people think I look nice? I am studying art, literature, history of art and philosophy, and contrary to popular belief, I literally have so much work to do all the time. Like, I just do my school work, sleep, wash and eat. That is a basic outline of my life. The very rare spare time I have, is spent with my family. I guess in that respect, I am quite lucky. If I need to be social, I live with my closest friends and we have a huge T.V. in our living room so I don't have to go out to get entertainment.
So I guess you could say we live in a mansion, but we prefer to think of it as a rather large house... In a forest. I promise we're not vampires or werewolves as well as savants. We just needed a lot of space because there's a lot of us and both my parents have lots of siblings and friends that they wanted to be able to invite over, so a massive house seemed like a good idea. Obviously most of that is just what I think as I wasn't alive when they made those decisions.
Our house is at the end of a long road, with lots of trees everywhere which some might call a forest, and at the other end of the road there are other houses and little shops. So we're pretty deserted. My family have owned the land around the forest for centuries, and so my parents are wildlife experts who take care of the nature around us.
I guess that's all the backstory you need to know, so here is My Life As A Savant.
So, I rewrote it a bit... What do you guys think? x
(P.S- 17/03/2016 - I just made some more edits because I was rereading it to remember what is going on for writing and I noticed there were quite a few errors, if there's any more could someone let me know in the comments please?
