Chapter 4

“Hey Ray, what would you do to me if I killed your brother?” Sailee asked “He’s really getting on my nerves.

“Nothing much, Lee. All I would do is stab you in your ass. After all you’re my best friend, right?” I reply with a sweet smile. She sticks her tongue out at me and Advet laughs. Stupid Lee!

It’s Monday morning and we’re sitting in Advet’s car. Sailee had come for a sleep over at my house and now Advet is dropping us off to school. As always Lee and Advet are fighting and they keep dragging me in the middle, asking me to take sides. They’re really silly sometimes, arguing like kids and I can never get them to shut up.

I love them both so much but right now they’re really getting on my nerves. I put on my earphones and listen to Crazier, waiting for school to come.

The very minute I get off the car, I see him. He’s looking so gorgeous that for a minute I forget how to breathe. I feel blood rush to my cheeks and I try but am unable to look anywhere else. “Oh god! How can somebody be so perfect?” I think to myself.

He’s standing beside the school gate, leaning on to the wall, talking to some guy and laughing. His smile has me swooning, I feel like I’m floating.

While I’m still lost in his thoughts, Advet is watching me with a confused expression. “Ray, why’re you going all red? He asks. Seeing that I do not answer, Lee does the honors. “She fascinates him” she tells Advet while pointing a finger at him. What is she doing?! he’ll see her! I am so alarmed but nobody is looking at me now!

“Do you even know him? He doesn’t really seem to notice you” Advet continues. But I dodge this question too, I don’t really want my brother to know about this, but Miss Lee doesn’t spare me at all. She answers, enjoying herself thoroughly “She finds him very gorgeous, you know. He plays football and is known as the 'beckham' of our school," pauses to snort, (sigh! she's so dramatic!) "I've heard he's a really sweet guy, or so everybody says. Hence, Oh la la! Our ‘Rainy’ has a cruuuush on this lad.”

Damn! I’m gonna kill Lee for this! “Thanks a lot, Lee” I glare at her and furiously walk away. I’m feeling so embarrassed now! He had seen Lee pointing her finger at him and had even looked in my direction. Feeling his gaze on me, I had gone even more red. Was it even possible? I felt like a tomato!

I am past the assembly hall now, at the base of the staircase that leads to the classrooms. I can’t help thinking what it is that has made me like him so much. I don’t even know his name, let alone knowing him as a person. I know that this is going to go nowhere. He doesn’t know me either. I’m really shy and not miss popular in any way and I think I’m actually invisible to everyone but Lee. She’s always been there for me, right from kindergarten, and she’s my best friend.

While I’m still pondering over my jumbled thoughts, I see Lee approaching and I know why she’s here.Although I'm angry wid her, she matters too much for me to let the fight go on...as it is,I'm really bad at holding grudges. So I think whatever,mahn!, I just smile and forgive her when she apologises and we climb the staircase to go to our classroom, as the bell rings. Alas! My good mood is shattered, as I realize that I have to sit with that perv again!...Eww!

“If he touches you again, or as much as even looks at you, just temme?” Sailee tells me while shooting a murderous glance at Ayush.

I go and sit in my place, turning my back to that perv and ignoring his ‘hi’. He’s about to say something else but thankfully the teacher enters and he is interrupted.

I was attentively listening, pretending to doodle in my book and look busy just to keep Ayush’s mouth shut.

Suddenly there was an announcement and it just caught everybody offhand.

Heads shot up, eyes bulged out and the teacher turned from the blackboard, facing us with her mouth open “Oh!” she says.

I look at Sailee and she looks back at me……..I know we’re both thinking the same thing - “Oh-My-God!”
