I spent a quiet dinner last night, and Lily didn't reappear until dessert.
"Hey," a hesitating voice said behind me, while I was dong my job, which is to say, folding clothes.
I turned around and there was Lily, holding what seemed like 10,000 T-shirts and skirts and dresses.
"Hello." I said tonelessly. "Can I help you?"
"I... I... Can you show me the trying room?"
I led her to the changing rooms where no one was, because the shop'd just been opened 10 minutes ago."There you go." I said in my flattest, polite voice.
"... Stay with me while I change. Please?"
She went in a tiny stall and I sat down behind the counter."You know, I'm sorry for what I said." Lily called from inside.
"Bit late for that."
"But I really am genuinely sorry. And Marina does like you, she told me so yesterday, but she didn't actually ask me to go and talk to you." She went on.She got out in a plain white tank top that looked incrdebly small for her andthat revealed her grey bra. She spun around for me to see the back.
"How is it?" She asked.
"Perfect." I said without thinking and without realizing that she was the bitch that ruined my evening yesterday.
She got back inside and said "I really am sorry, you know. And you look, like really nice. You should totally go see Marina after work. She's at home. Give me your number and I'll text you the adress.""Can't you tell me now? There is such a thing as talking, you know." I said despicabely.
"We just moved. Like literally 3 days ago." she said, sounding hurt, like the first time, when I hadn't remembered her name.
When she got out I told her my number andshe kicked my numbers in her phone.
"Texted you the adress." she said.
After one of what felt like the longuest day, I swept a bit, anxious about meeting Marina later tonight.
When Lily first told me that Marina still liked me, it hadn't done anything inside me. But then I remebered how much I suck at talking and I begun asking me all sorts of questions, like, what will I say to her? What will I wear?
In the end I decided to just wear my work clothes, which were my everyday-out-of-work clothes, because we can wear anything we want. Except sometimes, Diane corrects the way I look and hands me a T-shirt she has in stock.
I bolted out the door of Brandy Melville and I looked at the adress that Lily sent me. I added Lily in contact, and I drove to the adress she sent me.
All the time I was drinving, I wondered if Marina was waiting for me, if she was stressed.
Then, I remembered that she was stil a selfish bitch and that I shouldnt have too high expectations.
I got to her house, a cute 2 floored house, with very bright white walls.
I rung at the door and a middle aged man answered.
"I'm Christian. I came to see Marina." I said.
"Oh, sorry, but we're not interested." he said.
and I realized that he thought I was some sort of pope or something that came to pray at his house or something.
"I meant I'm Chris Trigger. Christian Trigger. It's a French name."
"Ha! Ha! Ha!" the man laughed. Apparently it was very funny. "You're here to see Monica? She's up in her room with some... boy."
With a boy? It might just be a work partner, so I don't care. I've never been to her room before, because she'd never invited me in.
I go up the stairs and I knock on the first door I see, blood pouding in my cheeks. I open the door, not waiting for an answer, and it's the bathroom. I close the door disappointed and knock on the next door, which is Lily's.
"Hey." I say.
"I'm going out, so if there's any problem, text me." she says in what I think was an attempt to be nice.
" 'kay bye?" I say as she rushes past me.
I knock on the next door and don't wait for anyone to tell me to come in.
It's Marina's room. I know this because she is making out with a guy on her bed.
