Chapter Four
Hailey's Pov...
--"You're smiling like a school girl who has a crush," Natalie says, a playful smirk on her lips.
Blush creeps onto my cheeks as I quickly look away from eyeing Xavier. Natalie rolls her eyes and begins to attend the next customer.
It's rush hour, eight in the morning and everyone is trying to buy donuts and coffee. I glance over to the table where Xavier is sitting at, his eyes landing on me with a soft smile. Feeling awkward as it is, I give my attention to the man in front of me. I write the order down and hand it to Natalie who finished off handing the donuts to the woman she was attending.
Looking over towards the door, the woman who I was afraid of walking in walks with a swagger to her step. She's wearing an expensive looking trench coat, her hair curled and pinned up into an intricate bun, and quite honestly she looks pretty good. She takes a quick glance at me before going towards Natalie who had a soft smile as they talked.
I had the sudden urge to easedrop but the man that Natalie had attended previously was getting impatient. I looked at his order and gave him an apologetic smile before handing him his toasted bagel and hot chocolate, sending him on his way. I looked over towards Xavier, could not stop the smile that appeared on my lips as he waved at me. I waved back before glancing at the empty shop. Morning rush hour had just ended and no one was going to be coming in for a few hours at least.
Natalie was still talking to... Abigail, yeah that was her name. I mean talking to Xavier would not cause any harm if I did so. Fuck it, I walked past the counter and made my way towards Xavier who was looking down at his phone. I did notice how the woman looked at me, I could not help but smirk.
"Hey," I said and smiled as soon as he looked up. Gosh he truly does have a gorgeous smile.
Xavier gave me a small smirk before gesturing the seat in front of him. "Sit, I would love the company."
I did as I was told, he kept looking at me and immediatly put his phone away, giving me his full attention. I could not help but eye his face, he had stubble but in a weird way it fit him. His curly hair was tied into a bun and his eyes, his cute hazel eyes locked with my blue eyes. I wanted to talk but I just froze in place.
"I'm glad I saw you today," he said at the same time I said, "So how has your day been so far?" I turned pink with embarrassment. I am just a catch honestly, I wish I could hide. Xavier's eyes are looking down at me, a small playful smile.
"What donut?" I asked.
Xavier laughed, "I said day, Hailey. How has your day been?"
My cheeks instantly turned pink. I looked around and noticed the lady eyeing me here and there. I turned back to Xavier who was looking over my shoulders. "A friend of yours?"
I shook my head before sighing.I began to tell Xavier about the day where I had accidently spilt her drink on her expensive clothes. During the time I was talking to Xavier I could not stop smiling even though I tried so hard to. The way Xavier paid attention to me was amazing, he would laugh at my lame jokes and give his thoughts on whatever I was talking about. To be completly honest it felt really nice to just have someone to talk to.
I do not have many friends and when I make a new one I make sure to keep them as long as they want to be with me. That is how Natalie and I became friends, I met her in a community college class and she just talked and made me feel so welcomed. Friends are hard to come by and I will try so hard to keep Xavier.
"Hails, I swear my morning was so weird. I went to work and there is this girl at work that likes me right, so when I clocked in she kept looking at me!" I couldn't help my roll my eyes, I feel like guys and girls can be oblivious to these types of things.
I wonder if Xavier mentioned this chick to get under my skin.
He kept going on and on about how this girl does crazy things for him like doing Xavier's duties at work. The stupid part is that Xavier is leading the girl on, from what he's been telling me is he likes it when girls crush on him. Seems to me that I am going to have to be careful now, he's kind of turning off my hots for him.
I look behind me and see Natalie looking at me, she waves for me to return to my post. Xavier doesn't seem to notice as he continues to talk. He looks really cute but I need to get back to work. "Hey, it was great keeping you company but I need to go back to work." As I stood up Xavier put his hand over my own.
He blushed and made sure to move it away. "I'm sorry, I really enjoyed talking to you. Maybe we can continue to hang out?"
I sort of did not want to hang out with him anymore. He just gave me a vibe that made me want to run away. I have learned that I shouldn't judge a book by its cover. "Alright, I'm down for that. We can chat later after I get off if you want," I said with a small smile.
Xavier seemed relieved, he stood up and nodded. "You get off at 3, right?""Yup."
"I'll see you then, thanks again," he motioned his drink and went towards the doors. I watched as he shook his head and actually jogged away.
With a heavy sigh I went back to the kitchen, ignoring the stare of Abigail. I had enough of seeing her face.
-Work was and is boring to the core. I've been standing against the donut counter waiting for a potential costumer to walk in. I'm so nervous for 3 to hit. What am I going to even talk about with Xavier? Other than work, I doubt we can have a long lasting conversation. Gosh, I haven't been this nervous since I received a message from my mother.
Never had a good relationship with the parents, but what can I say, life goes on and so should I.
"Waiting for your mans?" Natalie asks and she comes out of the kitchen with two iced macchiatos.
"Oh please, I hardly doubt that. Nattie, it seems like he's a player type of guy," I say in disappointment.
Natalie shrugs and hands me my coffee. "Think of it as an experience. Sounds shitty don't get me wrong but Hails, you literally have been out of the dating scene since Jen. And she was a bitch, may I add."
Jen was an old "girlfriend" of mine. She and Natalie never got along as Jen always thought I had the hots for Nattie. Considering that Jen was the one that ended up cheating on me. She's irrelevant now but man I truly did love her.
"Remember when you caught her with her ex?" I said with a chuckle.
"Dude I still think about it sometimes," we both laugh it off.
As I take a sip, I can't help but think about the truth in Nattie's words. She's right, I mean I'm 23 years old and I haven't kissed anyone in about 3 years. Looking at Natalie, she's looking down at her phone and she swipes right and left on Tinder. The door swings open and Xavier is standing there with a smile.
"Hey all," he smiles as he walks closer to us.
Looking up, I can tell those mischievous colored eyes will fuck me over eventually. But until then I'll take what I can get. "Hey, I'm off in about 10," I explained.
Xavier shrugged as he sat on a stool. "No problem, I wanted to talk to both of you."
Natalie looked towards us and smiled. "What's it about?"
"A friend of mine is hosting a house warming party, I wanted to invite you girls to go." He looked at me with puppy eyes. Damn.
Natalie didn't hesitate to answer. "Pff, I am so down to go. We both are." She took my hand and scooted me closer.
I had mixed feelings about parties. I tend to get crazy when peer pressure hits, and that's my bad habit. "Seems like a cool idea," I say.
Xavier smiles once more. "It's settled then." He looks down at his phone and then at me. "Ready? My car is parked around the corner, I'll drive you home."
Natalie looks at me and groans, by that means that she would have wanted a ride too. I Pat her back and grab my backpack from a cubby underneath the counter. I wave goodbye to Nattie as I walk around the counter to stand by Xavier. He stands up and leads the way to his car.
Honestly, I'm pretty dumb for agreeing to this. I literally just met the guy. Anything for a free ride, I guess.
And that's my story of how I was kidnapped. No, seriously what was going on inside my head to agree to this? Oh right, a free ride.
