I turn around in a frenzy- there must be someone behind me that she's walking towards right?! I lose my balance (over my own feet no less!)and fall to the ground like the klutz that I am.
Thank god I didn't wear a dress today...
My mom has always told me I'm like a horse that hasn't learned to use its legs yet - clumsy and unbalanced. I look up and as to be expected everyone is laughing over my horrid balance. I hang my head down embarrassed and it's a relief because I can't see them and if I can't see them they aren't laughing at me.
Who am I kidding? All of a sudden the laughing stops and the dark-haired-curly-haired-girl has outstretched her hand to me. I look up at her suspicious - why is she helping me up? After I brush my hair off my face I grab her hand - she's not leaving without helping me up I can tell, and she hoists me up - surprisingly strong for how small she is.
"Thanks", I mumble as I feel heat gathering in my cheeks and my ears from the embarrassment of falling. She looks at me straight on with her green eyes says, "you are welcome."
God, this is getting awkward. Hesitantly I remove my hand from hers and start to walk depressed to the awful cafeteria where they will most certainly serve slimy sloppy joes and greasy fries.
"Hey wait up!" I hear her call , probably to her new crowd of admirers, but there she is again next to me. "Hey why'd you walk away ?" She says with a tone of annoyance in her voice- almost as if ... No,she wouldn't want to be friends with me ...Would she? "Err- I want to get lunch so I can sit outside today." I reply hastily.
"Would you mind if I joined you?" She asks politely and with a sweet smile."If you want."I murmured fascinated. Why was she still talking to me?
We joined the line and got our lunch. More like I got my lunch. She insisted she had her own . I felt like all eyes were on her. She would for sure be shunned now for willingly coming up to me and I was sad for her now to know her social life was over before it began.
As we walked out the doors she began to relax and looked 20 times happier outside. It was a sunny day and it was hot and looking like it would be one into the evening. My kind of day.
We sat down in the grass and sat next to each other looking at one another awkwardly then hungry all of a sudden I started to eat my sloppy joe. She carefully unwrapped some oranges from tinfoil and ate one delicately.
"Do you want one?" She inquires with a sweet smile.Nodding I grab one.
"So why did you want to sit with me?" I thought out loud after this I take a bite of the fresh fruit and am hit by a citrusy explosion. It was good.
"You looked like someone I knew and wanted to help."she says as if this explains everything.
"Okaaaaaay" I noted as I took another bite.
"What's your name?"I asked her curiously.
"Sky, and yours?"she says with a smile.
I decide to introduce myself James Bond style."Dawson. Andi,Dawson."I expect her to smile or giggle but she doesn't, and she turns pale as a sheet.
And that's how I knew that something was going to happen. Soon.
