"Juliet! Julie-et! Where are you?" Her handmaid shouted across the echoing halls of their large house. Stopping above the stairs on the second floor, she threw her hands in exasperation with a heavy sigh."Coming! I'm coming! Wait Melissa! I am so sorry! I couldn't hear you, I was in my sewing room trying on dresses for the party. Please forgive me!" Yelled a gorgeous young girl, about sixteen, with blonde curly hair and soft facial features.
Melissa, her handmaid, was a short, older woman who had little patience for Juliet's knack for being late. She had grey wispy hair and a wrinkled, hardened face.
She shook her head with a heavy sigh, then looked back up at Juliet.
"Juliet dear," she started, "your mother is looking for you. It is quite important. Now go quickly, she's in your bedroom waiting for you. Go quickly!" And with that, Melissa put her hand on Juliet's back and escorted her up the third flight of a grand staircase.Walking a little quickly for her small stride, Juliet inquired, "whatever could be more important than getting ready for my party? I need everything planned, after all, it is in two days time. Really, now what is it?"
Walking so quickly as almost to a jog, her handmaid muttered, "the whole reason you're having this party, that's what." Raising her voice, she continued, "now move quickly! We don't have all day!"
Rounding a corner quickly they arrived at Juliet's bedroom. A gorgeous King-sized bed furnished the center of the room. A gorgeous white-oak desk adorned the floor space against a wall. A sheer white canopy hung from the top of the bed and draped over the bedposts. Juliet's mother sat on the edge of the bed.
She was a fairly tall woman with soft eyes but a hard face. She had grey-brown, long, silky hair that went until her waist. Her eyes were a gorgeous green/blue color. She was wearing a cute airy tee with Capri pants.
She patted the comforter beside her. "Sit." She said with a motherly smile. Continuing to speak, she said, "I know you've likely been wondering why we're having a huge party so soon, right? Well, it is for a reason, not just for fun. You see, we want you to start meeting more guys. You just turned sixteen, and you're becoming a woman. We want you to have a man by your side. We think you should also consider this invitation."
Raising a perfectly shaped eyebrow, she gestured for her mother to keep talking.
"Right, well, you know Paris, right?" Her mother questioned.
"Yeah. Why do you ask? I think everybody knows him." She said with an eye roll worthy of a hundred dollars.
"Anyway," her mother proceeded to say, "he has asked you accompany him for a three-year modeling trip to France. Of course, this is optional. He says he'd be awful lonely without you, but you could get a modeling job with him, and maybe date him?" She suggested with an airy shoulder shrug.
Juliet sat, shocked. Her face looked like a mix between surprised and disgusted.
"I thought he was gay!" Was all she managed to say.Stifling a laugh with her hand, Melissa said, "I do believe there has been a bit of a mix up here. He is looking for a girlfriend, and wants you to be his. That's all." She chuckled, looking over at Mrs. Capulet who looked fairly let down.
"Well, I will inform you, I don't want you to go quite so young. I think you should date someone else here before you move on so seriously with someone. And living with him? I don't think I'm comfortable with that, I mean, you are still a virgin, and I'd like to keep it so for at least two years."
Juliet stared, appalled at the thought. "Mom, you know I would never! Anyway, I'm not interested in him. I'll stay here and date a bit until I need s break. Then maybe I will go with him. And trust me mom, I'd get my own apartment. Geez." And with a shudder, she hugged her mother and left the room with Melissa.
I know, I know, it's shorter, but oh well. Those of you who read the Shakespeare original know there's a few differences. I know too, I promise. I'm reading the play as I go along. Anyway, expect 1 or 2 chapters tomorrow. Thanks for reading! Also, if you or a friend is looking for an editor, I am free to do that, I am an accomplished English person. Thanks guys!!!!!!
