Welcome to Ankeresa. A world of magic and mystery, a place only limited by the imagination of the inhabitants. A place of many stories, a history both long and short. Without a beginning and an end. Endless time, with a void of calm surrounded by the chaos of creation. Welcome to Ankeresa!
In a trashy alleyway on the side of Centrepiece Avenue, City Constant, on the western island of the Newthorn islands. It was a dark alleyway, and it was damp. No windows looked into it, no doors opened on to it. It went back about 20 metres, though you could not tell just walking past because of the darkness that seemed to be impenetrable. After that it came to a dead end. The alleyway seemed to have no purpose. There was alot of garbage there, but it never seemed to move and no one went into the alleyway to empty the bins or dump more trash. In fact, the City Constant is one of the cleanest city in the Spacii. So this alleyway really baffles the people who take the time to care. The main theory is that it was made early in the cities history before the RWDSCC (Rapid Waste Disposal Service of City Constant) was invented and implemented to deal with the cities trash. Although why it wasn't removed afterwards like the other pre RWDSCC disposal systems were is unknown.
One theory is that it was left as a reminder of the cities early history, despite this not being a common practice in Spacii. Another is that the alleyway simply escaped the attention of the maker*
*It isn't known if there was one or a few makers of the City Constant*
However, the alleyway is rarely entered and so no attempt has been made to remove it from existence.
However the small alleyway of Centrepiece Avenue did have a purpose, a very grand one. It had been decided that no animals would exist in Spacii outside of zoos. Only exotic breeds of animals would be allowed in the zoos and so cats and dogs were banished from Spacii.
However the creator saw a day when cats would help save the city from destruction. And so the alleyway was built as a secret meeting place for the cats of the city. Somewhere they could go to for food and water. A place to hide when the hunters came. It is a dark time for cats. Stealth is the only way to survive. Stealing from people, sneaking along pipeways to avoid being seen. Jumping from roof to roof in the depth of night.
And yet there presence has not gone completely unnoticed. Despite the careful precaution taken by the creator in keeping these cats hidden some of the Yu ( A Sub race of Humanity. They are generally shorter then humans and have the ability to breath pure oxygen) discovered them during the 154th cycle. However this occurred at the same time as the purity movement, and so the Yu tried to create diseases with the cats to release on the city. However during a surprise raid on the lab almost all of the cats were killed. A few escaped back into the city and re-joined with the few that hadn't been captured.
The Yu archives were wiped out by the purity movement, and so the cats went unnoticed by humanity, as the bodies were incinerated by the weapons used in the raid. And so they continued to live in the city.
But in the 200th cycle an event that has never occurred before, an event that should not have been possible occurred. By the time it was discovered the "Occurrence" was twice its original size and moving at an unmeasurable speed. It was predicted that it was 'of no danger presented by it'. By the time the peace authorities realised it might be dangerous it was already 10 times larger then it had been before and was predicted to hit the city in just 1 week.
However, it was not thought to be dangerous. It was thought to be a ball of energy, possibly an energy star that had lost its way. In fact many thought it would deliver new technologies and powers to City Constant. That could not be more wrong. In the tunnels below the surface the horn of Ocel sounded.
