Chapter 11

In the city, there were cars everywhere, some completely still while others flying down the road, nearly hitting the adventurous children. Jemme continued to hang onto Ignifex's hand, especially when they entered the crowds. They all stared at Ignifex, who only smiled his sharp-toothed smile and waved, as if he was an alligator with a mustache. They'd finally turned off the street and Jemme breathe out a sigh of relief, glad to be out of the crowd. They were in a dark alleyway, stray cats walking past them every now and then. They reached the other side of the alley, which opened into a brightly lit field. The grass was tall and blowing in the frosty wind, as the children trudged their way through it. Suddenly, Ignifex stopped and parted and large bunch of grass for her to step through. When she did, he followed and smiled at her," here we are," he points in front if them. She stares, wide eyed at a giant run-down building, the roofs caving in and large holes busted through the windows and concrete walls. She turns her gaze to him, curiosity and a spark of fear flashing behind her eyes and across her face," how do you know this place is full of adventure," she asks her smiling friend. He looks at her," I have weird dreams that show me this building. My mother.... about a month ago... I told her about it and she said it might become a major part of my life one day," he shrugs and looks back up at the building," whatever THAT means..."She watched as he continued toward the building," are you sure it's safe to go in there," she asked, running to catch up with him. He looks back her and smiles," nuh uh..." She breathes in the cold air through her nose and let's it out slowly. Ignifex was already climbing through a small hole in the wall and Jemme followed, reluctantly. Ignifex watched with glowing, tri-colored eyes as she climbed into the building after him. " I can't see a thing," she said, standing beside him in the only light from the moon she could see. He chuckled softly, sounding excitedly breathless," Just follow me Jemme," he takes her hand, making her yelp in pain and yank her hand away from his," you're burning up," she said, stroking her burnt hand. He looked into her crimson eyes and smiled apologetically," Sorry... I'm just excited is all," he said, looking back deeper into the building. She shivered as they walked towards the back of the building, making Ignifex smirk at her," Are you scared," he asked mockingly. She shook her head roughly and looked at him," just cold is all," she says plainly. They walk for a while before Ignifex takes of his sweatshirt and pulls it over her head... She looked at him as he continued to walk," thank you," she said and he looked back, blushing profusely," you're welcome." They pass another hole in the wall, revealing that Ignifex had no shirt, making him feel exposed and cold... He had horizontal triangles down his back, making him look like he had golden stripes. " What are these," she asked, reaching out to touch one. He jumped and squeaked in pain, turning to face her curious gaze," uh... what are what?" He tried to act like he didn't know what she was talking about, but she crossed her arms and puckered her lips," don't lie to me... you know what I'm talking about..." He attention was caught on his chest. A giant upside-down cross was play steered across his chest along with a few more of the golden triangles on his collarbone. He looks down at his chest and grimaces at the ones on his collarbone," those got worse, he pokes them with his sharp fingers making Jemme look away when she saw his bone, shining brightly out if them. He looked at her and smiled nervously," these are nothing... just ignore them," he said, turning on his heels and continuing to walk. She ran to catch up with him and to take her mind of his wounds, she asked," what kind of adventure are we looking at here?" He looks at her, glad she changed the topic," uh... I heard rats a few inured ago... I smelled too," he made a stink face. " And there is also SILVER..."he said, his eyes wide with excitement. She looks at the rocky and broken floor," but... that's not very adventurous for me... none of that scares me," she said, looking up from the ground. Ignifex smirked and looked ahead of them," oh don't worry, I know something that you can do," he said, quietly," follow me..."
