Chapter 2
I was wrapped up in my warm, cozy bed. I was lying there just staring at the bright blue numbers shining back at me as if we were in an intense staring competition. The alarm clock read 1:03am.
My deadly silent dinner alone with my parents ended only a short couple of hours ago. Once I had excused myself I paced up to my room getting prepared for the nightly argument.
They stopped yelling only half an hour ago. I’m guessing my mother was just too exhausted to deal with the pressure tonight causing her to get up, take a warm shower and slip off to sleep. My dad had probably fallen asleep in his office downstairs again which was now becoming a regular habit of his.
Mariano and Leo had come home shortly after I knew both of my parents were in a deep, silent sleep. I heard them whispering to each other about being quiet, trying not to wake me up.
I silently smiled to myself when i heard Leo stumble, causing him to trip on his way upstairs in the dark. Knowing all too well that Mariano would have given him a 'are you serious' kind of look and shook his head at him.
Soon after both of their doors were shut. I was betting with myself that if I listened closely enough I could only hear the slow wind blowing against the big oak tree outside in the night.
I couldn't sleep. Knowing I had a big day ahead of myself tomorrow, my first day at AMC high school. It would surly be a tiring one.
Not being able to lay still any longer, I finally sat up and reached down to the floor. Searching for where my usual true passion lived, I felt the tips of my fingers brush against the cool, worn, leather notepad. I flipped my lamp on and started sketching away whatever came to mind.
After a couple of minutes i saw the light of my I phone shining up at me from my bedside table. I reached across to it, knowing exactly who it would be. I saw the small message pop up on my screen. Sliding the message open it read;
Selena- Can't sleep. I saw the light in your room turn on so obviously I'm not the only one who's going to be tired for tomorrow ;) sketching again?
Smiling to myself I replied to my best friend Selena. Selena lives next-door to me and surprisingly our rooms are opposite each other. Our connection into each others room would be the big oak tree that we did name over the summer we met. We named him Steven after the actor in a seriously hilarious chick-flick we watched not long ago.
Melissa- You know me too well... Ohh well I'll just be the very tired looking new girl tomorrow, what’s new? :)
I wasn't worried about my first day tomorrow. I knew I had Selena there for me if I needed help with anything. She always had my back and I always had hers, that’s just how it is.
After texting for a good half and hour I finally sent her a quick goodnight before slipping my notepad back onto the floor, under my bed and drifting off into a relaxing sleep.
Tomorrow would be very interesting.
