Today was the day. The day I would be leaving my life in Edmonton behind. I would be moving to the beautiful city of Montreal. All by myself. With the exception of my older brother, Max.
My parents had been split up. Max and I never got along with our father, so we were living with our mother in Edmonton, while my dad moved... Well, I don't exactly know where he moved. And I don't really care.
My Mother died in a car crash in July, and my brother and I decided we would stay 2 months just to see what happened. We couldn't stay in that house, with all the memories, so we both thought it would be best if we moved and basically started over.
My brother and I are really close. Even growing up, we weren't really those siblings that fought a lot. He was probably my best friend. He's 24, and I'm 19, but the age difference never really came between us. He has been my biggest supporter, and is the best brother anyone could ever ask for. We have the best bond, and have so much in common, and I couldn't wait to start this mess of a life over.
I was blurred out of my thoughts as I heard my brother calling my name.
"Cass! I'm giving you until the count of five to throw me down your suitcase. You'll regret it if you don't."
I groaned as I rolled over towards my window and shut my eyes. Bad idea. The sun beamed through the windows, causing me to groan again.
"One........ Two......." I heard Max calling out. I could hear the frustration and impatience in his voice.
"Okay! I'm fucking coming!" I said as I rolled over again and rubbed my eyes. I peeked over at my phone, which was on the floor, plugged into the wall. I had no where else to put it, since my room was basically gutted out, besides the bed which I was leaving for my cousin. I leaned over the edge of the bed, and pressed on my home screen. It was 12:09 PM. Our flight was leaving at 2:00. Fuck.
I immediately shot up from the bed, and grabbed my suitcases that I had next to my door. I threw them down over the large staircase, not caring if anything broke at this point. All I cared about was making this flight in time.
I ran back into my used to be room, and grabbed my jean shorts, and red lace tank. I checked the weather for Montreal last night so I could pick out my clothes.
I tied up my long, brown hair into a high ponytail, with the elastic I had on my wrist.
I unplugged my phone making sure I had everything I needed.
I ran down the stairs, to meet Max at the door out of breath. He tossed me the keys to my car, and grabbed his bag from the counter. "You're driving." He said as he ran through the front doors of the house.
There were so many memories made in this house. Good and the bad. No matter what, I was going to miss it.
I grabbed a water bottle I left out last night, that would probably be piss warm right now, grabbed my purse, and slipped on my sandals. I walked out the door, locking it behind me, making sure to kiss the door on the way out.
I ran down the steps to our large driveway, and hopped in the driver seat of the Black Chevy Equinox.
We pulled out of the driveway, as I shed a tear as we made our way down our childhood street.
"Oh my god, aunt Donna better hurry up. If she doesn't come and take the car, we are so gonna miss this flight." Max said to me as he paced back and forth by the main entrance to the airport.
I was getting really impatient with her. She lives about 5 minutes walking distance from the airport, and she's a trained runner, yet she still manages to be late.
While I was waiting for her, I decided to pull out my phone. There was a text message from my best friend Shawna.
"I'm gonna miss you boo. You kept me happy, and positive, and I'm gonna miss that so much. I love you with all of my heart Cass<3 I can't wait to visit you during Christmas Break, and hopefully we can see a habs game together;) Xoxo"
Her message caused a big smile to appear on my face. She was the closest person I had in this town besides my brother. She was basically the sister I never had, but always wanted. We said out goodbyes to her yesterday, because we figured it would be too hard.
I decided to reply when I got my coffee from Tim Hortons, because I was too impatient right now.
I looked up from my phone screen to see my aunt running around the corner.
"Ahh! There you kiddos are! I'm going to miss you two!" She said, all out of breath, as she pulled Max and I in for a hug.
I could see the tears in her eyes as she pulled away from us.
"Max, keep up with your education, go back to school or whatever, and do what you love best." She said to my brother as she held on to both of his shoulders. He nodded and kissed her on the cheek.
"And for you young lady..." She said as she came over to me. "Keep doing you. You're amazing, and smart, and I wish you all the best in Montreal. The two of you."
I didn't want to start crying again, so I quickly pulled her in for another hug.
"Just like your mother." She said to me as she kissed me on the forehead.
My mother was so close with her sister... Her only sister. She had 5 other brothers that she never kept in contact with. Her and Donna were like twins. They would do everything together, and besides the hair colour, they were basically the same person. My mothers death was so hard on my aunt, she didn't come out of her house for a month.
I handed my aunt the keys, and she drove off after a couple minutes of just chatter. Max and I ran into the airport, and checked our bags, hoping that we made it in time. With luck, we had made it just in time.
We took out our passports, and boarded the plane. I didn't even have time to text Shawna back. I guess I'll have to do it when we arrive.
We took our seats in row 18, seats C and D. Since the plane we were taking was 2 and 2, we had a window and an isle seat, which was perfect for us. I love the window, and Max loves the isle.
We put our bags in the overhead compartment, and I took out my phone and headphones. I opened snapchat on my phone, and took a picture from our window. I captioned it with "New life... Starting now" And put a black&white filter on it. I posted it to my story, and shut off my phone. I put my head back and listened to the pilot.
When the announcements were over, I felt Max tap my shoulder. I looked over at him, and he whispered to me "Well sis.. Our new chapter is beginning." I smiled at his words, and turned my head and looked out the window. We were going down the runway, and in the matter of seconds, we were up in the air.
I put my headphones in my ear and pressed the shuffle button. I leaned back in my chair again, and closed my eyes.
The beginning is now.
