Those were the best days of my life. Carefree attitude, 24 hours playtime. No restrictions.Things were going on smoothly. Those were the days when I could lay on my comfy bed reading Enid blyton all day long. No tensions about schoolwork. No tensions about exams. All we did was mug up the chapter designated to come.No silly infatuations with boys.Easy life,Easy marks...life couldn't be more merrier.
Then came the blow of teenage life. Well...it was definitely exciting to enter a phase completely new altogether. But I wasn't acquainted with the challenges I had to face. What worse? I wan't even aware I was changing.Changing from an outgoing girl to a secluded person.Perpetual mood swings, feeling isolated, emotional conflicts-It was terrible.Teenage life was a gateway to hell.As an icing to the cake,I had started undergoing infatuations. And I no longer considered them 'silly'.
Laying on the bed I daydreamed.I daydreamed long enough to the chagrin of my mother. She would reprimand me Hard.Soon I became good for nothing in her eyes. She loved me.She was worried. But all she could sense was my falling grades and not my detached personality. My teenage life had just started and I feared it would end too soon.Opportunities slipped away.Nothing seemed normal.
I cried.I couldn't understand my purpose of existence. My friends seemed the my only solace and confidantes.I slept the whole day.The feeling of despair crept in.
It was a normal day at school.I checked into my school's library to borrow some books. We had to do this idiotic reserach on the Nazi germany. What the heck did I care about them or about Adolf Hitler? My teacher had gone nuts.To my despair, all the books had been taken. There was not a book left. Adding to my woes,my internet connection had gone nuts too.I had no choice but to beg, borrow or steal or lose my 2 marks for prompt submission.
As I was about to leave, the librarian called me.
'Which book do you need,uh?' The ugly librarian croaked. She was the one whom I hated the most of all the library staff. She wore this sari which appeared to look outdated most of the times. She had this voice which would make even a donkey cringe. And above of all,she was after my life.Everytime I checked out books in the library, she made a point to come over to me,enquire me a 100 times about what I was doing.Check my book, scorn and go away and keep staring at my direction. Dear lady ,what do you thing we do at libraries,uh? Use it as a restroom?
"I..I need book on nazi germany....anything related to it.I just want information." I replied.
" Go and check...in that corner!" she barked.
"I...I have checked. All of them have been taken.Nothing left." I said.
She stared at me annoyed. What the heck ,I thought .Who told her to come flying into the scene like some saviour? She retreated to the place where she had been sitting .Picked up a book with a maroon cover and came back to me.
"Take this...this must have some references to Nazism" she said.
I looked at the cover...in Italics it was written- "the Diary of a young girl-Anne frank". I cursed under my breath. So this respected lady gave me a diary.and what the heck can a young girl's diary do good to my research project? I returned it back to her "No...I need a book having info-" .She did not let me complete and thrusted the book back into my hands."Take it....It has references to Nazism .I have been reading it" she said.
Under teacher pressure,I issued the book.I was uncertain about it.I did not need references..I needed a complete info-book. All I had was a diary of a girl.Presumambly a victim of holocaust.
I left the library clutching the book in hand. Lets give this diary a try, though I know it would serve no purpose in my project. I thought.
I sighed and went back to my class. That day realized. Not only my History teacher and my internet connection,my school librarian was also nuts.
