In the Cafeteria

I join the table where Zane, Lyndsey, and Marcus are sitting. They all stop their conversations and smile at me. Then Lyndsey's face goes into a concerned look.

"What's wrong Cel?" she asks.

"Nothing, my father is on earth. He is one of the men we have to find."

"Really OMG I'm so sorry. On the bright side Marcus and I are dating!"

"Wait what?!" I was shocked...not really, "When did this happen?"

"While we were walking here. He took me aside and kissed me. Then he asked me to be his girlfriend. Obviously I would say yes!"

"Okay enough about those lovebirds, Celenia do you want something to eat?" Zane asks.

"Sure, what is there?"

To be honest I wasn't really paying attention. I was too busy thinking about saving my father. Should I save him? No he dumped you for his job. But without him you would not exist. How will I find him? I don't know. How would I react when I do find him? Probably awkward and maybe scared. What if he is dead? I might cry. I might not cry. Do I wish he was dead? I don't know. What do I want?

"Cel? What do you want?" asked Lyndsey interrupting my thoughts.

"Um sorry I zoned out. Surprise me."

"Okay any allergies?"asked Zach.

"Nope just the bite of a screejay."

"Really? Aren't those extinct?" asked Marcus.

"I don't know. My mom just said never get bit by a screejay."

"Don't they sting and not bite?" asked Lyndsey.

"They can do both. The sting is poisonous to everybody but the bite causes allergic reactions to some people. They don't bite unless they stung someone and lost their stinger." Says Marcus.

Zane leaves to get me food. I wasn't really hungry, but I didn't really want to see Zane right now. He is making me feel awkward and self-conscious. Why do I feel this way?

After about fifteen minutes, Zane comes back with a T-bone steak. I forgot how good our food can look. My parents are never home so I have my friend the microwave. Whatever can be heated up and eaten is what I eat.

"I thought you were a vegan?" asked Lyndsey.

"You are a vegan?! Sorry I didn't know." said Zane taking my plate away.

"Hey! Give it back! I was never a vegan, I was a vegetarian. There is a difference. And I am over that. My parents have not been around so I would have to cook anything. I have been eating grilled chicken every day for the past 5 years. Screw vegetables. I want meat."

Zane gives me my plate back and they all laugh as I quickly stuff the steak in my mouth. When the laughing subsides I finish my lunch. I look up from my plate and see them staring behind me. I turn around and I see Connor standing right behind me. A smile builds on his face as he bends down to whisper in my ear.

"Enjoy." he says.

Connor walks away and Marcus starts laughing again. Lyndsey has a questionable look on her face. Zane has a ..... sad? Angry look on his face?

"What did he say to you?" Lyndsey asks.

"'Enjoy' that's all he said." I shrug.

"Um you have something on your face." says Marcus.
