3. Him
"Young Lady, the car is ready now."
I took a rest for about a week before start attending my sister's school. While in vacation, I tried to learn some Tagalog words – that's how they called their language here. Somehow, I remembered a few words. It was very hard for me to remember because of how they pronounced it. I wonder if my sister, Summer already learned easily all of it.
"Handa na a-ako." I said but I can still hear my British accent on it. Well at least, I know how to speak in Tagalog now. I grin at myself. "Did I say it correctly? I mean, t-tama ba?" I looked expectantly at Wallace as he is smiling softly at me and gave me a nod.
"Tama po, Young Lady." I pouted. He spoke it with correct accent. How did he do that? By the way, Wallace is an expert in different languages. He used to work in military and based on him, he needed to do it because they always go to different places. By the way, he is the one teaching me in learning Tagalog. "Young Lady?"
I was snapped back from my senses and nod at him. "Okay, come on."
The whole ride was silent. I can't deny that I'm very nervous right now. I keep fidgeting my fingers on my lap. But I'm also excited to see my sister. How is she? Where is she staying? I hope to see her soon. My Ate, a word used to call when you have an older sister.
After fifteen minutes, we reached the school. I read the name in front of the main gate. Charleston Shaw Sr. Academy is the name. We parked for a moment and after that, I got off from the car. Wallace is just standing nearby, so as my other body guard. I was amazed as soon as I gaze at the whole school grounds. It's so huge! Like a freaking castle. As I roamed my eyes, I saw some students stop their tracks and looking my way. Just like them, I am wearing the school uniform – white long-sleeved blouse with dark blue tie, same color with below the knee length skirt. Maybe because I'm new that's why they're looking.
"Ms. Howe!" Someone called me as I turn my attention to that person. A tall man, I think in his mid-40, is walking towards me. As soon as he reached in front of me, I saw clearly his whole profile. He is very fit despite of my guess age of him and a very good looking man. "Welcome to the academy, Ms. Howe." He offer a handshake which I accepted.
"Thank you, sir uhm..." I trail.
"My bad." He look apologetically. "I am Charleston Shaw Jr., the President and now owner of this academy." My eyes widen at his introduction.
"Oh..." He chuckles at my reaction. "Wow. I just thought you're the principal. Sorry about that." I mumbled.
"That's fine." He smile and I swear, the girls around us were swooning. "Let's go to my office?" I nodded. While we're walking, the girls keep batting their eyelashes to Mr. Shaw. Is it always like this? I wonder. I look at the man beside me, his face is neutral, as if he didn't care what is happening around us.
As soon as we reached his office, he walk straight to his desk and told me to seat to the chair in front. For a while, he is typing something on his laptop while I look around his office. It is very neat with white walls. Typical. A knock on the door, got my attention.
"Come in." Mr. Shaw said in cold voice. A young woman, I guess came in with a paper.
"Sir, here is the documents you requested." She properly put it all in his table.
"Alright. You can leave now." He said without looking at the young woman. I can feel some tension between them. For a while, I saw something crossed her eyes. Then, she turns to me and give me a brief smile and left.
"Who is she?" I suddenly blurted out. I heard him stop typing.
"My assistant."
"She is beautiful."
"Yes." He paused just for a while then continue typing in his laptop.
"Do you like her?" When I realized what I said. "I-I'm sorry for-" He suddenly laugh hard. He closed his laptop and rest his back on his swivel chair.
"I think I like you more, Ms. Howe." I frowned. "No, not the way you're thinking right now."
"But you like that girl in the way I am thinking right now?" My eyes narrowed at him. Now, I am really very curious. He laughed again.
"What a sraightforward girl, I see." He smirked. "Just like my son."
"Oh, you're married?" I felt ashamed and horrified. I never thought of it. It's just, he looks carefree and didn't have a ring when I glanced at his fingers. "I'm really sorry for asking personal questions." Again, he laughs.
"You really amused me, Ms. Howe. But to verify your conclusions, no I am not married." He said. "But I have a son."
"If you don't mind, where is the mother?" I ask, feeling sad for his son already.
"She died giving birth." For a few moments, silence filled the room. "Anyway," Mr. Shaw started. "Here are your schedule for the whole school year." He gave me the newly printed paper with the list of my schedules. "The school year is already started last August. But it's fine. I know you can still make progress."
"I understand." I mumbled while reading my schedule. I have Physics as first subject. I grimaced. That is not the best subject for the first class.
"I can see that you also took the exam to advance as senior level." He looks at me. "Why is that, Ms. Howe?"
"I uhm..." I trail. "It's because of my sister. She is studying here and senior student now." I said smiling. "I wanted to be with her." I whisper.
"Summer Alyanna Howe."
"That's her."
"I wish you good luck in the whole school year, Winter." He said and winks at me. I laugh a bit at his playfulness side. "Again, welcome to the academy!"
"Thank you, sir." I was about to leave when he spoke.
"By the way, to answer your question a while ago..." I turn around waiting for him. "I like that girl." I winked at me which made my jaw dropped. "But please keep it a secret." I chuckle.
"I'm good at secrets, Mr. Shaw." I winked back at him. After that, I left his office. I glance back at my schedule to see that it's fifteen minutes to go and my first subject will be starting.
"Young Lady, do you need me to accompany you?" Wallace said, suddenly at my side.
"No need." I smile. "Just pick me up at two in the afternoon."
"Are you sure about that?" He worriedly ask.
"Yes. T-talagang talaga." I said giggling.
"Alright." He chuckles. "Good luck on your first day, Young Lady." He bows and left. I turn around and start finding my classroom. As I read, it says, room 401. Based on the numbering, it's in the fourth floor. I saw an elevator and was about to closed when I shouted to wait.
"Wait, wait!" I got inside on time and felt relieved.
"Thank you-" I didn't finished what I am about to say as my eyes widens at the person in front of me. "You-"
"We meet again, Snow White." He mumbled. Again, I caught myself looking at his gray eyes which haunted me in my dreams.
