There had been a lot rogue sittings in last couple weeks. That made my pack worry. But it made me angry that my pack was afraid. My patrols had told me that rogues were camped just outside of my borders and that we should take them out. Of course the would have been ideal until we discovered that the rogues camp was actually a heavily guarded compound surrounded by high barbed-wire fences.
"Kale, these rouges are a danger to the pack. They have to taken out one way or another." Said Cameron. He was the beta of my pack and he was also my best friend.
He sat down in one of the leather arm chairs in front of my desk in the office. He was a big man almost as big as I was. He face looked like he had lost a few nights sleep on the matter.
"I know. The enforces and warriors are ready for the attack as soon we give the orders. But I don't like the looks of that place. From what I understand they have been taking humans and wolves for research. But I don't what kind of research." I explained to him he simply nodded and rose form his spot.
"Then lets go take these bastards out." He said as he left room.
I wasn't sure what was happening above. Loud crashes and growls, every now and then it would go silent then the crashes would get worse. At some point the power to the cells had been cut off leaving them in complete darkness. I often heard the startled cries of the other prisoners. All of this made my wolf uneasy and on edge. At this point I was to weak to escape.
After a while everything went silent, not a sound to be heard. In a way it frightened me. But I knew fear would only make me weaker. I could smell and feel the fear of other prisoners. I had to stay strong.
A door creaked and light came flooding into alleyway between the cells. Footsteps of several people echoed down the steps. I stayed to back of my cell out of the light.
"Cam get these cells open, now!" One man yelled. Many of the other prisoners started crying an begging for their lives to be spared. The many of the cell doors started opening quickly, then snarls of disgust.
"Alpha many of the prisoners are human. So far we have found ten women, six men and four children. We're still checking the other cells." Another man had said. I knew that many more had died, that their bodies lay outside in a heep. I was weak, my senses were dual. The door to my cell opened and light seeped in. I hid in the dark. The mans shadowy figure loomed in door way, he was looking for any signs of life. His whole body turned towards me. Then he growled. To him I was a hunter, an enemy to killed.
"Hunter." Was all the man said before he lunged forward and grabbed me by the neck, pinning me to the wall. I groaned lowly. My back was badly bruised. I knew that a couple of ribs had been broken as well.
"Go to hell." I said through my clenched teeth. The man chuckled darkly before growling again. I was to weak to fight the man off. The endless beatings had taken their tole on me.
"Cameron," An deep voice said from the door. "Stand down." The command dripped power. Reluctantly the mans grip on my next loosened then he released me. I kept myself pressed against the wall. Fear was overriding my senses.
"Alpha." The man who let me go said lowly and lowered his head slightly. The Alpha turned to me, I had yet to raise my head and look at the man. He was studying me, I could feel his pity and his disgust. "Thank you Cam. Go help the men with the other prisoners." He ordered. "Name. Hunter." He spat.
"Fuck you." I growled at him. He moved fast and wrapped his hand around my neck, making me look up at him. All I saw was a pair of dark green eyes. I knew I had made a mistake that would haunt me the rest of my life.
"Mine." He growled. "Name." He said more gently this time. He release me neck but still stood close. He was my mate.
"Ravenna Shadow." I answered softly. It was dangerous of my kind to reveal our names. Revealing our names often meant our death. So to the humans we protected, we were nameless. They called us shadows of the moon.
