False Alarm

I sat in my chair staring down the piles of paper needing to be signed. Most dealing with suggestions, budget, making sure files are in their proper place, etc. Deciding to get it over with I pulled out a pen and started. A few times Hisagi would come in checking on me although I assured him I was fine. When I finally finished I looked outside and saw that it was already night. I hadn't noticed time passed so quickly. This is troublesome. I complained mentally. Hopefully a couple of the captains were still awake so I could get these papers to them when one of the members of my divisions came in.

"Ma'am?" They said knocking on my door.

"State your business." I said not even giving her permission to enter. She stood outside timidly and spoke.

"I received word that vice captain Hisagi is drunk at the bar again. He can't even make it back safely."

"And you're telling me this why?" I asked resting my face on my fist.

"Well usually the captain goes get him." She informed me.

"He got himself into this mess he will pay the consequence for joking around. If that is all then leave." I told her. Not having to be told twice she left quickly. Putting the final touches to things I left to rest although I knew I would get none. Coincidentally the bar was on the road leading to my place. It wouldn't hurt to get him, but this would be the last time. I trudged into the bar and all eyes were on me. With a threatening look in my eyes I strolled up to Hisagi and grabbed the back of his collar.

"Who do you think you are?" He slurred pulling away from me. Not wanting to cause a scene I hit the back of his head hard causing him to pass you.

"Come on Matsumoto." Said a familiar voice. It was captain Hitsugaya. He didn't seem to notice me having a similar trouble, so I left dragging the drunk behind me. I placed him on the floor of his house and left.

It was a comfortable silence outside at this time of night and I partly didn't want to go inside just yet. Very few stars were out tonight and the moon was gone. With a sigh I walked up to my home and opened the door. I didn't bother turning on a light and just sank into the darkness feeling my way around. I hung up my captain's jacket and leaned my zanpukto against the wall. Removing the rest of my clothing I stepped into the bathroom for a quick shower thinking about the past. How long had it been since I last showed emotion? I shook my head erasing the thought.

~time skip~

Hisagi had to stay home due to a bad hangover. I knew this would happen and would have to get at him later about this. Now that I look around the previous captain's, Tousen, belongings were still here. I was so busy that I hadn't had time to really do anything with this place. For a blind guy his office was surprisingly neat and orderly. There wasn't much here, so I decided to leave it. It's not like I was all out about personalizing things. While I was in the middle of paperwork an alarm went off signaling a hollow appearance in the vicinity. With an annoyed sigh I grabbed my zanpukto and headed out.
I wasn't surprised when I saw captain Kenpachi trying to find it first, captain Kurotsuchi not here, captain Kuchiki uninterested, and their subordinates strewn all over the place out of order.

"Captain what should we do?" One of my division's shinigami asked, but at that point I was no longer beside her. I was standing in the air and of course there was no hollow in sight.

"Go home and get some rest there is no hollow." I told her and the rest of my division. She was about to protest but she seemed to remember that I didn't care and just walked away. It seemed like I'm the only one who noticed. I thought. Although thus would be troublesome I walked over to each captain and told them it was a hoax.

"What do you mean there is no hollow?" Asked Kenpachi. "I got all excited for nothing!"

"That is right, sorry to disappoint you." I told him.

"Thank you for informing us so we wouldn't be on this wild goose chase longer than needed." Hitsugaya said.

"You're welcome captain Hitsugaya." I said.

"Toushiro is fine we are both captains." He told me.

"Well then. Toushiro, vice captain Matsumoto have a good day." With that I walked away from them and back to my office.
