Chapter 1.
I closed my eyes, taking in the world around me. I couldn't believe this was it. My family were moving on, leaving behind our pasts, childhoods, memories and lives. It was going to be hard at first but I would have to get used to it just like my whole family would have to.
I wasn't sad I was moving on. This town just wasn't right for us. It was too small and clingy, everyone knew everything about you and it was really annoying. You couldn't even go to the toliet without the whole street knowing within 5 seconds. It was that bad. And it wasn't just that, the main problem was my father.
My father was a well known business man, always too busy to spend time with his 'beloved' family. He run a computer company in the center of town, and we were quite well off. But just becuase we were well off didn't mean we were spoilt. Hell no. We had to earn our very little money we got. My mother would always have me outside on the most scorching hot days cleaning her car or cleaning windows. She always had me doing jobs she couldn't manage, due to her being in a wheelchair.
Life had never been the same since the accident. Mum used it for a excuse for everything.
"I can't reach it, Lyra come here and give me a hand." or " The car has a fresh bird crap and I can't wash it in a wheelchair." The Doctors said she didn't even need a wheelchair now, but I think she's forgotten how to walk on her own. The physio therapy woman, Kate, has said that she should do simple things like walk to the toilet on her crutches on her own. Mum tryed, but not very hard. The thing is with mum she always gives up to easily. Maybe that's why my older sister Stacy never trieshard before giving up, she has a good teacher, mum.
Stacy is the dizziest girl in our family. She's the second oldest of us kids, and is very slow. Unlike me she isn't the best at school and when I'm busy doing homework she's busy making sure she looks perfect. Stacy is the most good looking in our family, I have always envyed her smooth long blonde hair, her perfect figure and her beautiful clear blue eyes. She's the lucky one, when it comes to looks. I got lumbered with long stringy ginger hair, hazelnut eyes and a chubby figure. I've always hated my appearence, always being teased for my bad looks and low self esteem. Maybe moving was a good thing....
Devon wasn't the worst looking boy either. Actually he was quite cute, if he wasn't my brother. He had short straight black hair and always wore blue. His eyes wear clear green and he took after dad. He was very serious and strongly built. Very polite and always got on with school work, unlike Stacy.....
Our family is a average size family really. There's Stacy aged 15, our brother Devon aged 17, Mum Carla, Dad Phil, the evil alien aged about 1 and me Louise Mercy Lee aged almost 13. I hate the evil alien. Really mum should start walkign and look after it and not leave me and Stacy to. But I always look after it. It goes by the name 'baby Hugo'. Baby Hugo ruined this family. We used to be so happy until he came along. He stressed mum out so much that she crashed her blue ford into a tree. There was no damage to the car but there was to her legs. That's why we're in this mess that we're in now.
"Come on Loo, we'll miss the ferry!" Dad yelled at me from the car. I sighed breaking my stare at the feilds out the front of our house.
"Goodbye, Halsham." I sighed again turning around and walking towards the car. "Just coming dad!" I called.
Dad and Devon had been packing the car for the last 3 hours and me, Stacy and mum had been running around saying goodbye to the neighbours.
I jumped in the back of the car next to Hugo and reached for my book. It was going to be a long journey.....
