My feet were aching but I didn't stop running. I didn't stop. Not when when my parents called out to me, not when I heard my little sisters desperate cries, not even when I could see my bedroom light fading in the distance. Hot tears streamed down by face, blurring my vision. I couldn't take it any more, it shouldn't be so hard. I reached the river that divides the Forrest and collapsed in a heap of exhaustion and tears. I rummaged through my bag for something, anything, that would keep my mind off my current situation. It was hopeless, the sole thing I had of use was a charm bracelet. One charm hung off it. Cat whiskers. Dan had given this to me as soon as I told him I was running. The image of his hand outstretched giving me this was enough to make me cry even harder. Soon enough I'd cried myself out of tears and sat on the ground shaking. My eyes were getting heavy and before I could pull myself up to keep going I was already slipping in and out of sleep.
