IN THE END, HE FORGOT HER.

IN THE END, REALLY, EVERYONE FORGOT HER.

And what a pity that was — because in truth, he was not the hero in the equation.

She was.

Sure, he'd slain demons, but nobody ever stopped to think about how he would have been dead if not for her help.

To put it simply, she was a castaway heroine — a whisper of a legend, cursed to live under the looming shadow of a man who had stolen her heart and all the glory that she should have received instead.

ARIADNE WAS A LABYRINTH.

THE ENTIRETY OF HER EXISTENCE WAS A COMPLEX MAZE.

Her mind ran like clockwork — infused with logic and always ten steps ahead.

It was a gift and a curse, for no one wanted to get lost in her thoughts. It didn't matter to them if they had any substance. She was merely just another stepping stool in their lives.

This would change.

Ariadne would no longer let anyone trample her.

She would no longer let anyone trample her, or any personage that resembled her.

She would not stand for the suffering of others.

Vengeance raged inside of her, a gluttonous fire that threatened to destroy everything in her way — and though the old her would have been horrified at what she had become, the new Ariadne embraced it.

ARIADNE SET THREE RULES.

IN A WAY, IT WAS SIMILAR TO A GUIDE —

— A GUIDE THAT WOULD PREVENT HERSELF FROM FALLING AGAIN.

ONE ;  Trust nobody.

TWO ;  Headfirst, not heartfirst.

THREE ;  Under no circumstances should you ever  fall in love.

Love, as Ariadne learned, was the one thing that could kill you when you were least expecting it.

Love was the one thing that could destroy people like hurricanes destroyed cities — love left them all in ruins and rubble and misfortune.

Love was the one thing that bound mortals like her to the mighty.

Love could bring the gods to their knees, make them weak — make them human. Love could cause them to start wars and tear each other apart.

And love — love was her favorite weapon.

She learned that if love destroyed mortals like her, it could do the same to the gods.

a story based on the greek myth of theseus and ariadne, with lots of /modern/ twists. this is basically the full summary. i've been planning to write this since march of 2016, but school got in the way, and writer's block came marching right along with it.

this will have mature themes and will definitely get pretty dark. you may be wondering, "why is ariadne out to get the gods if it was only theseus that wronged her?" all will be revealed, later.

ariadne is my favorite female in greek mythology. she deserved better than being abandoned and betrayed by the man she loved. i know a majority of mythology says she ends up marrying dionysus, but i'm here to change that.

hope you enjoy!

(dedicated to @malfloys for being kind enough to tell me what font they use on covers! i added "of dionysus" to my library. i'm excited to read it, it looks amazing!)
