When Cecilia Taylor first woke up on that warm September morning, the last thing she expected to see was the rain. Of course, it couldn't have been that surprising. Rain was a normal thing here in New York. But still, Cecilia couldn't possibly imagine it to be raining, especially on a day as important as this.
The sudden ringing noise coming from the hallway made her practically jump out of bed. Slowly, with her eyes half closed, she made her way into the main room and placed the phone by her ear.
"Hello?" She asked sleepily.
"Cecilia?"
"Oh, hello, Max." Why, why did this have to happen today? Why now? Cecilia took in a sharp breath and straightened her shoulders. "I'm so sorry I didn't call sooner, I'm afraid I just woke up."
Max laughed on the other end. "No, I'm the one who should be apologizing. A girl like you needs her rest."
Cecilia smiled to herself. At least Max appreciated her.
"Whatever you have to say must be extremely important, if you're calling at such an early hour," she said. "What can I do for you?"
"I'm in town for the weekend, and wanted to know if you wanted to meet me for lunch. I know we haven't seen each other in a while, so I figured now would be a good time to...you know, catch up."
Cecilia jumped up in excitement. "That'd be fabulous, Max! Where should we meet?"
There was silence for a moment. "How about we meet by the subway station on 68th and Beckham? There are lots of restaurants around that area."
With that, Max hung up. Cecilia sighed and fell back onto the sofa. They weren't together anymore, but he was always so sweet...the least she could do was sit through lunch with him. But there was still much work to be done...
She ran through the hallway back to her room, grabbed a dress and her makeup bag, then headed to the bathroom. Getting ready might take a while.
