Alexis groaned as she slid off her heels and sank lower into the lobby couch. "I don't understand how it's taking so long to fix this."
Matthew barely heard her. He paced back and forth in front of the couch, rubbing his temple. This mixup wasn't helping his ongoing migraine.
"I'm sorry," he sighed. "I'm the one who mixed up the rooms. This was my fault. I can go and fix it."
Alexis stood up with her arms crossed, a smile hinting at the corners of her mouth. "You know, that's one of the things I love about you," she said as she walked closer and closer. "If you do something wrong, you always work hard to make it right again."
"And I love that you are so understanding, and that you still love me even when I make mistakes." Matthew smiled back as he kissed her softly. "We'll fix this, I promise."
"Okay. But can we do something other than just sit here?" Alexis whined. "I know, let's go out for lunch!"
That did sound good, and the flight had made Matthew hungry, despite the numerous bags of airplane pretzels. But he had very little money, and even more, what man in their right mind would ask their girlfriend to pay for his lunch?
"Come on, it's a good way for us to explore the city!" Alexis said excitedly. "Plus I'll pay."
Matthew felt relieved, but guilty. "No, it's okay, I can pay for it-" he started.
Alexis put a finger to his lips. "Matthew, really, it's no trouble at all. You've already done so much for me. Hell, you let me move to New York City with you! The least I can do is pay for our lunch."
She looked at him so hopefully; how could he refuse?
