I remember her face looking so pale, almost colourless. Her lips were chapped, and her hands shook as they held onto mine. She looked drained, as if there was nothing left in her. And really, there wasn't.

"I wish there was something I could do," I whispered, my voice shaky and on the verge of crying.

"You already have done something," even her voice sounded empty.

"What do you mean?"

"You've been my rock. While I've been falling apart you've stayed here. While everything was changing you stayed. You left a stain on every one of my good days."

"I love you," I gave her hand a light squeeze, using every piece of me to try to keep the tears building up in my eyes from falling.

"I love you too. It'll be okay, I promise."
