The other half

Melody's POV
"Overseas? Aunt Megan? GONE?" All of these things running through my mind. For what felt like forever, I couldn't speak; then I finally managed to get out "Overseas where?". I know I don't have an Aunt Megan, so this must be one of my moms "secret code words". I ran as quickly as I could up the stairs, to the nightstand where she keeps a list of all her "secret code words." As I pulled out the card, I wanted to scream, but nothing came out, I just stood there with a horrified expression on my face. They took my parents. The next thing I knew, I was on the floor, sobbing hysterically while my puppy sat next to me trying  to comfort me. "How could they?" was all I could manage to get out. I said nothing for the rest of the morning; I just wanted to curl up into a ball and disappear, but then I thought about how lonely my puppy would be, so I smiled to her as a "thank you". We stayed inside the rest of the day.
