A/N 2020: Hello everyone for the revamping of Dawn of Shadows. I have decided to re make these three short stories first. I am making these story ones to practice writing and give time to finish story building for main book! I hope you all look forward to these shorties!
A/N: I know Tabitha is more of a girl name however there is some cases were it's used as a boy name. Please don't comment about it.
A bright sun shines down on the small city house. Waking up, a young boy gets ready for just a normal day. They call him Terro. He turns to his desk and finds a note. He reads it aloud, "Have a good day, I'll be home tonight. Love you kiddo. -your big brother, Tabitha." Everyday, Tabitha would write these little note since he knew he wouldn't be home until 11 o' clock at night. He worked on the police force and at a young age of 25. Sometimes they can get very busy being in the city. Terro would wait patiently for his big brother to come out and tuck him in, everyday. Terro ran downstairs after putting the note away. He is greeted by his mother and father's smiling faces.
"It's good to see you up,Terro. Are you hungry?" His mother said, rubbing Terro's head.
Terro simply nodded and patted his stomach. His father was sitting at the table with a tablet in his hands. He scrolls through the articles, reading the news. The father hums softly, glancing at the mother. She asked him,"What's wrong dear?" He responded,"Another break in on the east side of the city. This is the second one in a few weeks. Looks like Tabitha might be home later than normal again." The mother sighs,"He has been working way too hard these past few months...I wish he would just take the day off." She has a worried expression on her face. Terro hugs her, confronting her by saying,"Big brother is very strong and he'll be okay." She couldn't help but smile, agreeing with him. Terro sits down at the table, waiting for his food. His mother goes over to the stove and grabs a pan. She starts pouring in pancake mix. Terro licks his lips, he was starving and his mother's pancakes are so good. After breakfast, his mother receives a call, she picks it up and answers it. She was shocked to who was calling.
"Hey mom, I was just calling that I'm gonna be home a bit later than normal and I might be getting the day off next week, is Terro there?" A voice says through the phone. The voice was Tabitha.
Terro jumps up and down excitingly,"Is it Tabitha? Is it Tabitha?" His mother smiles and nods. Quickly Terro grabs the phone,"Big brother!"
"Hehe, hey kiddo!" Tabitha was happy to hear his voice,"Guess what? I might getting the day off next week. We'll gonna have a day to hang out."
"No way! I can't wait!" Terro says. His mother smiles happily watching Terro talk to his big brother. They start telling stories to each other, stories about their week. Tabitha goes on about some of the criminals he caught, keeping some details out since he didn't want to scare Terro. While Terro talks about his week at school and the field he recently went on. The brothers chat for about twenty minutes before Tabthia says he was to get back to work. Terro hangs up the phone and sighs. His mother walks over to confront him.
"Hey, I know it's hard...You do want to see him more enough but you know how he can get with his work." She pauses for a moment, "But I promise he'll do something fun with you soon." She pats Terro's shoulder. He looks up at his mother and starts to calm down.It was the same routine everyday. Terro gets up reads a note from Tabitha and goes on with the rest of day. At night before Terro goes to bed, Tabitha comes home from work and says goodnight to him. Even though it was the same thing everyday, Terro made the most of it. After all he's only a child. He doesn't understand the events that are about to come for him.
It was a calm and quiet day when it happened. Tabitha came home early from work and had a surprise for Terro.
"Little bro, we are going to spend the day together!" He says with excitement. Terro was excited too. He runs up and hugs his big brother.
"Really? You really mean that! Today is going to be so fun!" Terro happily shouts. Tabitha giggles a bit,"My,my, your full of energy today. Guessing you had a good night sleep? Or did it suddenly come to you when I showed up?" He pats Terro on the head. "Alright, just let me get my outfit off and we'll start having a great day." Terro nods and sits down on the couch, swinging his legs. Tabitha walks to his room. A few minutes pass and he comes out wearing causal clothing. Terro bounces up. They go into Tabitha's police car, Terro is confused by this.
"Why are we taking your police car?" He asks.
"My other car is in the shop, the engine wasn't running right. We should her back by tomorrow." Tabitha explains to Terro. He replies with an Oh. Tabitha starts the car and opens the garage with a remote. The car pulls out and they are out to start the day. The first thing they did was go to the museum downtown the city. Terro has always loved the museum. He was very interested in history and the different wars that happened. He could answer and say most trivia questions about history no matter what time period. After a trip to the museum, it was almost noon.
"Say Terro, Where do you want to eat?" Tabitha asks.
"Let's go to that place you took mom and dad to eat, you know the one with the fancy water?" Terro answers.
"That place is rather expensive right now kiddo, where else can we go?" Tabitha comments. Terro sighs and he thinks.
"Oh I know! Let's go to that place with the steak!" He says. Tabitha nods in agreement and they had towards the restaurant. They enter the place and get seated at a table. A waitress walks to them and the brothers order their food. Shortly after, they talk about interesting stories they had over the week.
"Then I was chasing the guy around the ally, he thought he could get away by jumping over the fence, but I grabbed his leg before he could. I pulled him down and handcuffed him..." Tabitha goes on telling the story.
"You're so brave Tabitha!" Terro interrupts. Tabitha is pleased by the comment. He knows well enough that Terro looks up to him.
"I was just doing my duty and making my dream come true." He says to Terro. Terro replies back,"To make the world a peaceful place." Tabitha gives a warm smile and nods.About twenty minutes pass by and the waitress comes back with two plates. The brothers enjoy their meal together. Tabitha pays for the food and they head off to the next part of their bonding time. Terro suggests to his older brother they should get some ice cream. The inner child in Tabitha screams out yes. They hop into the police car and drives off to Terro's favorite ice cream parlor. Pulling up to the drive through, Tabitha asks for two strawberry ice cream with cones. The cashier takes Tabitha's money and hands the ice cream to Terro. Tabitha parks the car in the parking lot. Terro hands one of the ice cream cones to Tabitha. They happily lick the ice cream.
There's nothing like spending an afternoon with a brother like Tabitha. It was such a perfect day too. The sky was so blue and clear, a gently breeze came in from time to time and the air temperature was mild. But the atmosphere changed when the bank alarms went off, it happened to be across the street of the ice cream parlor. Two men, most likely around the age of thirty, wearing ski masks run out of the doors, holding a large bag. Tabitha spots them right away, even through he was off duty. He always has an extra outfit in his police car in case. Terro, only being a young child, doesn't understand what is going on as he sees his brother put on his vest and grabs his gun and radio from the glove box.
"B-Big brother, why are you getting your work stuff?" Terro asks nervously. Tabitha turns to his little brother, he acts serious now.
"Terro. Stay in the car and hide in the back seat." He orders, Terro would interpret him,"B-But why bi-" Tabitha stops him,"NOW!" Terro flinches and does what he's told. Tabitha cocks the hand gun and opens the car door, jumps out and shuts the door. He blocks the two men's path from escaping. "HALT!" He barks out. The men try to run around him but it's no use. Tabitha quickly calls for backup. They have a stand off at this point.
Meanwhile, Terro peeks his head out the window, terrified of seeing his brother like this. Suddenly the men pull out guns. Terro panics and he sneaks out of the car and hides behind it, thinking he wasn't safe in there. Tabitha stands his ground and pulls out his gun too. His eyes showed no fear. A few minutes of a stare down happen, until the men decided to make the first move and shoot at Tabitha. Swiftly Tabitha dodges the first bullet, it would hit a tree nearby. The second bullet flies at Tabitha, he avoids it. The bullet flies through the air and bounces off the mirror of the police car. Terro suddenly falls back onto the ground, his chest starts to turn red. He can barely breathe or move. Tabitha turns to the horrible sight. Terro was shot down, his own little brother. On top of that, only a child. Rage and sadness fills Tabitha. Reaching for his gun, Tabitha fires at the two men. Luckily he got one in the leg, but the other fires back and Tabitha flies back and collapses next to Terro. He looks down and holds his bloody side. The bullet hit him in the abdomen. He looks at Terro, eyes becoming misty. Terro wheezes a bit and weakly turns his head to Tabitha. He tries to speak but can't. Fear was in his eyes and tears rolled down his cheeks. Terro didn't want to die, nor wanted his brother to die. The air grew thicker for Terro, the taste of metal was in his mouth. Blood dripped down his chest. His vision started to blur and every sound became muffled. Tabitha weakly reached his hand over and grabbed onto Terro's arm. Terro didn't react to the touch. Words came out of Tabitha's mouth but Terro couldn't hear them clearly.
"I...love you...kiddo..." Was the only thing he made out. I going to die...That was the only thought in Terro's head. He also worried about Tabitha too. Mom and Dad suddenly became in his mind, what were they going to do? Both of their sons injured but one suddenly dying? They couldn't bare to move on with him dead. Tabitha would be more than heartbroken losing his only brother. His family would be
destroyed by the guilt and morning. But it didn't matter, this is how Terro's life will end...Nothing can change that fate. He could starts to see the sweet white light of death, suddenly talking is heard.A blurred figure gently picks up Terro and sets him on the stretcher. He feels himself being rolled into a car. A siren is heard. He was being taken to a hospital with Tabitha at his side. Turns out luck was with him after all. Going into the ER, Terro had no idea what was going on. He felt himself being put to sleep. Strangely, he had no dreams nor nightmares. A matter of time passed and he woke up in a hospital bed, his eyes darted around next to him. Tabitha was there, crying with tears of joy. His brother was okay. Terro couldn't help but feel happy, he was going to live, however the fear of almost dying would still haunt him.
