Chapter 1;
Aptitude TestABIGAIL'S POV
'I miss him' that's all I could think right now. I bit my lip, holding back a another scream. The belt slashed at my back again and again until finally, Marcus grabbed my arm tightly, digging his nails into my skin and dragged me up the stairs to my room. He pushed me inside and slammed the door shut. I stumbled a bit but, regained my balance as I was about to hit the wall. That night I cried my self to sleep.
The next day I woke up early and started to get ready for school. Everywhere hurt. Especially my back. I put on normal Abnegation clothes, which consisted of a grey shirt, skirt and shoes.
I walked down the hallway to the kitchen. I opened the sliding panel that hid the mirror. As I looked at my reflection, I can't help but think of my mother and brother. I missed them. My mother, Evelyn Eaton, died when I was five and my brother, Tobias Eaton, transferred to Dauntless two years ago leaving me with our abusive 'father',Marcus Eaton. I looked mostly like my mother. I got her nose, he smile, her long fingers. But I had Marcus' eyes. A rare dark blue colour. I put my light brown hair up in a tight bun, making sure no hair stuck out.
After I shut the panel, I started making breakfast for Marcus. A few minutes later, he came down the stairs.
"Do you want a ride to school?" Marcus asked, sitting down at the table.
"No thanks. I'll walk." I reply.
Marcus raises his eyebrow.
"I mean- no thanks sir." I say quickly.
Before Tobias left he used to take most of my punishments for me, when Marcus came home angry because of a bad day at work. Since Toby left, my beatings became worse. Marcus blamed me for Tobias transferring to Dauntless. I had plenty of scars to prove that.
After Marcus and I finished eating breakfast in silence, he left making me clear the table. But I'm used to it. I always need to cook for him and do what he says or else I would get a beating.
I started to walk to school. Today was my last day of school. It was a half day because of the aptitude tests.
When I got to the Upper Levels building, I was early again. I went to my locker keeping my head down. Every day, just before first class started, at exactly 7:45, I would watch the Dauntless jump off the train to get to school. I admired them. Not because my brother is one of them but because they are brave and they protect us from danger. They are warriors.
At lunch the cafeteria was buzzing with conversation. Well, apart from the Abnegation table. The aptitude tests were after lunch.
Once lunch was over the younger students in the Upper Levels went back to class. All the sixteen years olds stayed. The Abnegation weren't talking. I looked around. The Candour were talking, laughing and debating very loudly. The Erudite surprisingly weren't reading. They whispered quietly to each other. The Amity were laughing and braiding each other's hair and the Dauntless were playing arm wrestling and laughing loudly. I was really nervous even if I knew what would happen. Marcus told me and trained me to get Abnegation as my results.
Once me and Beatrice Prior's names were called, Beatrice and I stood up and walked into the test room. I looked around. The whole walls were made of mirrors. I looked down.
"Abnegation and mirrors." I heard somebody mutter from behind.
I turn around and there is a Dauntless women typing something into the computer. From behind I notice that she has long, dark purple hair and a tattoo of the sun.
