Another random post... I know. Again this has nothing to do with a story it's just more on life haha.
I feel like there is a huge difference between the words good and great. The word good is so undervalued and I think that's because we have linked these false and misconstrued meaning to these words. The meanings of these words can be completely different from person to person but I want to share what they mean to me.
From everything that I have ever seen in my life greatness is far more elevated then it should be. When you hear about someone achieving "greatness" it is directly attached to what they do. So in essence we are just saying that the only thing that makes you "great" is what you put into the world, even if it's only temporary.
Then there is the word good. Greatness sounds incredible. The word alone seems like it should surpass the word good. But I don't think of it that way.
To me goodness is attached to who you are; it is the very essence of your being. "Goodness" is a direct reflection of your heart. It is what you stand for and who you stand by. It is the way you treat yourself and others. It is everything that makes you real and genuine.
Being good doesn't have any prerequisites. Everyone is imperfect and we are all destined to struggle at some point but that does not mean that we can't be good. We are all worthy of love and belonging.
Being good is enough. That's something that I think we take for granted. I think that's something we often overlook.
The reason this is so important to me is because I believe that "greatness" will never beat out "goodness." Being good is directly attached to your joy. Greatness is attached to the benefit or advantage that others will take from your creations. We risk missing out on joy so many times because we are too busy chasing down the idea of "greatness" that is dangled in front of us.
One more thing that I want to say may seem like it has nothing to do with the words good or great. But it is still important because I still see people struggling with this day in and day out.
Beauty isn't what we make it out to be. Let go of what you think you are supposed to be and embrace who you are. Inside and out you were created very good. Exceptionally good. You are good. I know that living in an overproduced, photo shopped and and thoroughly edited world can make that difficult to see. But don't slip into the idea that you are anything less the perfect.
You were created good. That's the reason good always conquers great.
