~8 Years Later~
Link's POV
I stretched and sat up in my bed in Hyrule castle. Today was the day. 8 years had passed since the tragic burning of my hometown. Sheik still remained my best friend, and Ilia still had an obvious crush on me. Oh well.Life in a castle. Well, I resided in a room connected to Sheik's. They HAD to be down the hallway from Princess Zelda's room. Actually, she is a pretty nice girl. We rarely saw each other; I was usually practicing fighting skills and she was... Doing whatever princesses do. But sometimes, we talk in our free time. I learned that she hated her life as a princess and wished she could go out and explore the world. Also, she was slightly tomboyish, which is surprising, considering she's a princess. But still, she was still so sweet, so kind, so good looking... Agh, what am I thinking? I'm a commoner! She's a princess! Those two do NOT belong together.
I quickly changed into some nice clothing, ran a wet hair through my hair, and made my way toward the dining room. Coincidentally, it was just about time for breakfast. The smell of delicious food filled my nose. Then I saw her. Zelda was sitting at the end of the table, close to my usually seat. My face broke into a smile. "Good morning, Princess." I said cheerfully. She laughed.
"Please Link, there's no need to be formal with me. Just call me Zelda."
"Alright, Pri- Zelda," I replied.Breakfast was over quickly. I realized it was a beautiful day, so I decided to take a ride on Epona, my horse that I had won at the nearby ranch. As I was mounting Epona, I heard a voice behind me.
"Going somewhere, Link?" Ilia said, batting her eyelashes.
"Just for a ride on Epona." I said with a shrug.
"I see. I was wondering if you could meet me in the castle courtyard at let's see... 7 o' clock?"
"Probably. I may or may not be a bit busy tonight. Hopefully I can make it." I lied.
"OK. Hopefully, I'll see you tonight! Ilia said while walking away. I sighed and rolled my eyes.
"Like I'd ever want to..." I mumbled to myself. But when I thought I was alone, I was wrong.
"What was that?" Said a different voice. I spun around. There stood Zelda, walking toward me. I almost bowed, but I stopped myself.
"Oh, hello Zelda. You see, I was just.. Going for a ride on Epona."
"I see. But who was it you were talking to?"
"Myself, technically. Well, it had to do with my...er...friend, Ilia."
"Well Link, I don't want to be selfish or anything, but do you mind if... I come with you?"
