Chapter 6- Questions

|•| Kirstie's POV

"Avi, why are you out here anyway? Is it just a hobby or...?" I trailed off, just wanting him to answer my question. He signed.

"I knew you are going to ask that," His low voice rumbled. "I have slight Anthropophobia. It means I'm afraid of people. The forest helps me get away from everything," he smiled, looking around.

"So Scott and I don't bother you?" I asked hopefully that we didn't.

"No, of course not. It's good for me to have social interactions from time to time. Just... School ruined it for me," Avi signed, looking into the distance.

"Wait, how?" I asked as Scott came into the room. Was I being to nosy?

"Well, my friend and I went to public school and he's Christian and I'm Jewish. We got bullied a lot for it and I just... Got afraid I guess. But my friend, he graduated before me and we lost contact. I graduated, accepted I had a problem, and moved into the forest."

"I'm so sorry," I heard from Scott behind me. I glanced at the window and saw the sun was up.

I looked back at Scott and proposed (A/N #Scirstie) that we should head out.

"Yeah..." He said, worry coming across his face.

"Avi, would you want to join us?" I asked. Why was I so talkative?

"No, I'll have to pass. I like it here in my shack. I'd just slow you down anyway," He replied.

"Are you sure? You would be so helpful in keeping us alive!" I exclaimed, trying to be funny. No one laughed.

"Sorry Kirstie. Maybe I'll see you later though," he said, smirking. Though everyone knew that wasn't true.

I looked down in disappointment and sighed. My feet dragged me to my bags where, and my arms swung to pick them up. He was starting to grow on me.

"Let's go, Scott," I said before stepping out of the tattered house.

"Goodbye. Safe travels!" Avi called as Scott and I walked away.

We walked in silence for a while. My legs and back ached. I just wanted to complain, but I didn't want to bother Scott.

I heard a twig break in the distance. I got really paranoid.

"Scott, has there ever been... Attack in these woods?"

"I mean a couple, but they were all drunk and really deep in the forest," he reassured me.

Another twig broke. It seemed to be closer. Another snap. Even closer.

"Scott...?" I said, whipping my head around.

And right there in the trees. Not what I was expecting. A little cub.

"Aww..." I cooed. But I was smarter than to go near it. "Scott, there's a mom near... Run." I stated blandly before taking off. But he just stood there, shocked and looking at the baby bear. And... The big bear coming right up next to it.

I swore under my breath and ran back, dropping my bags. But it was too late. Scott made eye contact with the larger bear and she was beginning to stand.

Scott was frozen in fear.

Avi's POV

I watched as the two friends walked away and sighed a breath of relief. I was alone again!
