Why had he been assigned this job?
You were a clumsy person, true true, and he guessed he could take care of you, but still. Why?
It'd be easier if you listened to him as well, but, why should you?
Sans had been chosen to be a kind of... Guardian? Caretaker? Angel? Who knows?
Well the thing is that he was supposed to protect you so you wouldn't hurt yourself.
A task he found harder once he actually started doing it.
The first time, it was when you were riding a bike. Not a care in the world. Wind against your face. The sensation of freedom.
Until.
'I bet I can do this without holding the steering wheel!!'
"Hey, kiddo, don't try that, that's not how bikes work."
But you didn't listen.
Crash!
"fuck"
Many incidents like this happened.
Like a bad time you had with a squirrel at the zoo.
It would've helped as well if you could actually see and hear the short skeleton that tried to save you from trouble. But you'd only feel his words in the back of your head.
Sometimes you'd listen, sometimes you wouldn't.
You'd "talk" to yourself, thinking those thoughts were your own.
Sometimes you'd think of the funniest jokes, and you believed your brain made them up.
The years went by and you'd listen to that voice more and more often.
Let's just say, becoming an independent adult wasn't that easy.
The voice helped you to sleep when you had those nights when you just couldn't.
Sometimes he'd give you advice on how to do your job.
But you still believed it to be your own brain.
Until.
One late night, it was a Thursday.
You felt like you couldn't do anything anymore.
Your lovely parter, they'd told you it would be better if you two separated for a while, and even though you were surprisingly calm when they said that, the moment you got home you broke down in tears.
You picked yourself up and went back to finish the work you had to do.
Your thoughts wouldn't let you sleep, you tossed and turned under your bed's covers, you went for a glass of water and tried to sleep more, but it didn't work.
You wanted to cry once more, but you thought of it as a stupid idea.
When suddenly, between all of your bothersome thoughts, you heard a voice. A deep masculine voice.
You were pretty sure that you had never heard it before, so you listened to what it had to say.
"hey kiddo,
noticed you weren't having good time, so I took the liberty to pay a visit"He paused.
"let me tell you. things'll be alright. and when you feel bad, you shouldn't hold your tears back, they wouldn't be there if you didn't need them. and if you don't believe me about you feeling better, alright. but trust that I'll be by your side until the day you realize I was right."
You nodded at his sentences and slowly let yourself cry after he finished. He whispered soothing words, and eventually you fell asleep.
Hoping he would keep his promise to be there, so you could at least say thank you.
