_Trevor’s perspective_

A million thoughts raced inside his head. Why her? Which way did they go? When did they do this? He voiced these three questions after leaning back down towards her.  Patrick was already kneeling besides her helping her sit up.

“I said I would never betray the king if my life depending on it. They went north bound, only a few moments ago” was her answer.

“Who are you?” I asked.

“Lady Audrey Lillian of Evelyn Manor” she said wearily.

“Evelyn Manor! My Lady whatever are you doing so far away from home? Your father, the Lord, must be worry with sick at your absence!” Caleb suddenly said in complete shock. Lord Braxton was one of the king's favorites and none of the knights could truly understand the kings reasoning. He was a pompous man who seeped greed from every inch of his body. He consumed far too much for a single human and he was lazy and hateful towards his people and army. He never once fought in battle so naturally the king liked him. The problem with having his daughter sitting here dying in front of them was that they would be blamed; her father would pretend to care so he could get money and she was probably a right spoiled chit.

“I ran away” she said flushing and looking down at her hands.

“My dear Lady but that is an unwise thing to do in such drastic times don’t you think?” came the voice of one of Trevor’s top men, Quentin.

She looked up and they noticed that she had shed a few tears in the few seconds of silence. Her tears reflected off of her face in the twilight and she looked rather besides herself.

“Yes but I had no choice.” She whispered without making eye contact with any of us.

“Trevor we should take her back to camp and see what we can do for her wound” Patrick suggested, speaking for the first time.

_Patrick’s perspective_

“Let me help you my Lady” Patrick held her with gentle loving arms. He picked her up around the waist and delicately placed her onto his horse. He followed suit and got on behind her. He placed his arms around her to keep her from falling and to help keep her warm as he had just noticed her shivering.

When they got to the camp he helped her down and brought her to their fire. The other knights who had not come along all looked wide eyed and curious about the new guest and Trevor took them aside and filled them in. slowly all fell asleep except for Sir Patrick, Lady Audrey and the two men on guard.

“How are you fairing Madame?” he asked as he sat next to her. He couldn’t keep his eyes from her, she was beautiful on the outside and he prayed she was of equal beauty on the inside.

“I’m feeling fair. I believe my treatments will have it cured and I should be fine in no time. She replied shyly.

“If I may be so bold my kind lady but what is the true reason to your runaway scandal?”

She looked him straight in the eyes for the first time and she sighed, “My father beat me and hated me. Every moment I was there he would remind me that I was unwanted. He is a disgusting and brutal man who deserves nothing but death. On many occasions I have come near death myself, at his hands and I feared my life wouldn’t hold out much longer if I stayed. I left a night ago on my horse. They took her when they ambushed me.”

He was shocked at the life she had lived. She hadn’t been spoiled and loved as he and the others had thought. “What happened when they ambushed you? Didn’t they recognize you?”

“I think they might have but they weren’t sure of themselves. They asked me my name and status and I said I was but a former maid to a governess and that I had taken her older dress.”  She made a gesture referring to her gown she wore, “they then asked me of my name and I said Mary Katherine of Oshdale City. They then proceeded to carve into my skin while another man held me down. I screamed twice and after each the bashed me roughly in the head. As they finished they hit me again so that I lay there on the edge of throbbing consciousness and the sanctum of unconsciousness. They left me there and took my horse.”

The young woman who sat before had met a harder life than that of many men. She had undergone a terrible life and when she escaped she only ran into similar issues. She didn’t seem to resemble her father one bit. He was pulled out of his thoughts as he stifled an elegant yawn. “You may sleep under my blanket I have next shift and you will need the rest more than I” she thanked him and walked away. He then walked over and roused Trevor so they could take up their watch.

_Trevor’s perspective_

“Trevor we will kill you. What scares you is it your mothers dead lifeless body or your fathers? Maybe if we got a hold of your dear sisters would that cause you pain?” He was tied to a post and moments before he had to endure the sight of them spilling his parents blood, he had to listen to their screams as he sat there defenseless tied to a post. Then the air was filled with struggle and he looked up to see his younger sister, Elizabeth, being dragged by her hair. “Let her go!” his screams pierced the air. The man and his followers laughed and within a second his sister was impaled with two swords. Her lifeless body slumped forward and hit the ground with a sickening splash as she landed in a puddle of his family’s blood. The man cackled once more. Suddenly, he was being shaken very violently but not a single man touched him.

“Trevor. Trevor get up it’s our shift” came Patrick’s voice. He woke up and was thankful for the rousing. That day had been painful enough ten years ago; he didn’t want to relive it every time he closed his eyes in sleep. As he and Patrick took their shift Patrick filled him in on everything Lady Audrey had told him. Trevor’s eyes were lively and he was suddenly flooded with anger and rage. After that fitful night when he had watched his family’s deaths he had never been able to handle a woman of any sort being abused. “Were you dreaming of them again?” Patrick asked. Normally Trevor would have been furious for any man to ask such a thing but Patrick was his dearest friend and was the only one who knew everything there was to know about Trevor.

“Yes.” He confided. “I can still see it as clear as the day it happened, Elizabeth’s impaled body,  all the blood.“ He had been happy on that day for one reason and one reason only and that was that his two older sisters, Madeline and Caroline, had not been killed. Unfortunately that happiness lasted only for another two weeks. He found Madeline swinging by her neck in the woods and Caroline impaled to a tree nearby. They both bore the words revenge on their left forearm and it had been clearly carved in to their flesh by a poisoned knife.
