Exploding Stars

I stared out the stained window for the last time, the stars shone brightly; one thing I would miss about this place.

I twirled a piece of my auburn hair, it resembled the colour of the sunset; I remember watching the sunset while blaring my music, just waiting for my aunt to yell at me to get down and go to sleep.

"Skylar, we're leaving!" I heard my aunt's mousey voice cut through my thoughts; I sighed and got up from my chair, I grabbed my suitcase and went downstairs, "It will only be a six hour drive, come on." She spoke as though she were scolding me, what did I do?

"You're just like your mother, slow and lazy." My aunt spoke again, shoving me out the door- I felt something stir inside me, but I ignored it and glanced back at the old wretched house for the last time.

I smirked slightly, and followed my aunt out to her van; I threw my suitcase in the back, and then hopped in, there was no way I was sitting up in the front seat with her.

"Skylar, darling, why don't you sit up here with me?" I heard her ask, her voice full of lies, I shook my head and situated myself in the very back, trying to get as far away from her as possible.

"Just because your parents are long gone and dead, doesn't mean you can't love your beautiful and wonderful aunt."

I scoffed to myself; who did she think she was? Bringing up my parents like that, as though she didn't do it enough; everyday at breakfast, lunch, dinner, basically every chance she got she would pounce on the subject, rambling on and on about how they had died.

"Well, dear, let's have a peaceful trip!" She sang, revving up the car; I glared at her, and then turned to the window and stared as if nothing else mattered.

I drummed my fingers on the rim of the cup holder, watching as the car rolled up to our new home; it was in the city, and close to the highschool.

I felt a pang as I recognized where we were; this was my old town, and it resembled my old neighborhood.

I felt memories flood back to me, I would always go out and play with the kids next door- no, no, not that way.

The van door opened, and there stood my aunt, glaring at me with her beady eyes; I shot a glare right back, biting my tongue as she looked me up and down.

"I'll get the movers to move your stuff into your room, but for now, go and have a shower you hideous being."

Jesus christ, talk about two faced- I silently hopped out of the van, and followed my aunt into our new home; it was small, but nice; she led me up the stairs, and whisked me away into the bathroom, after, she threw a towel at my face, along with shampoo and soap.

Then, she slammed the door.

"Lovely," I sighed, setting the things down on the counter; I stared in the mirror, not sure what I was feeling at the moment, I felt numb; it was probably from all the insults my aunt flung at me daily.

I sighed and quickly showered- I didn't want to make my aunt angry, afterall.

I walked downstairs, my aunt stared at me, her bright red lips were pursed and she had a hand on her hip; it scared me how much she resembled me; she had light orange hair, done up in a sloppy bun, and green eyes.

I saw her as hideous.

"Bye for now, dear." My aunt suddenly spoke; she abruptly walked away, I watched her go, I fought the urge to cheer with joy.

I walked down the rest of the stairs, and decided to go outside; I opened the wooden door and walked out onto the cement stairs; I looked to my right, and what did I see?

My neighbors- staring at me, they were twins, or so I assumed, I sighed and walked back in the house; why couldn't I just live somewhere without people my age?

I leaned against the closed door- I looked at my phone, and opened the calender- then I realized.

I began school tomorrow.
