Falling for You [natray/gratsu fanfic]

Tears and. . . more tears

"You're just a pink haired idiot! You don't know anything!" Gray sobbed as he buried his face in his hands.

Natsu just stood there unsure what to do or say. He hated it when Lucy cried but then again he always found a way to cheer her up. But this was a whole new level. He wished everyone could just always be happy! But he knew that would never happen. So he took a deep breath.

".   .   .  Gray , I'm sorry"

"No! Don't you fucking do that!"

It soon occurred to Natsu that it would take more than soft words to make Gray feel better.

He walked over and knelt down to were Gray was on his knees. He took both of his wrists so Gray couldn't cover his tear soaked face anymore .

"Hey." Natsu said sternly, still holding his wrists to his sides.

Gray kept his face to the side. He didn't want Natsu to see him like this however  he didn't have much of a choice.

"Look at me."

Gray continued to stare at the ground.

"I said look at me dammit!"

Then the ice Mage did look at him. His lips were pressed hard against his lips and it was obvious that he was making an effort to hold back more tears.

"Natsu, I, --I'm" the dark haired teens stuttering  was cut off by a warm embrace.

Natsu'a arms were secured around him tightly.

"Please," the dragon slayer whispered, "please don't be sad. . ."

Gray inhaled Natsu's cinnamon scent and hugged him back, clutching his shirt as he quietly continued to cry.

"I love you."

Gray's eyes shot opened and he pulled away from Natsu a little too harshly. 

"Wh-What!" Gray gulped.

Natsu's face was burning with the realization of what he just said.

"Well--uh--it's not--I didn't--"
he awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck. He knew there was no going back.

Natsu was upset at himself  for having the hope of Gray just saying I love you too and the two sharing a passionate sloppy kiss. But this wasn't a fairy tale. This was an uncomfortable cold reality.

You could practically drown in the awkward tension between the two.

Gray was unsure how to respond. He had never even thought of Natsu in, that way, until now.

"Um," Gray started, "s-sorry I don't think I--"

"It's fine!" Natsu interrupted with his shining trademarked grin. "I shouldn't have said that at a time like this--so just forget about it k?"

"Uh.  .  ."

"I'll see you back at the guild ice princess! And if you need to talk again you know where to find me!" Natsu lightly punched Gray's shoulder and exited his apartment.

Only until Natsu was about a block from the love of his life's apartment did he let the tears fall.

"Shit." He laughed as more tears fell.

Natsu kept grinning as he continued to cry. Never had he felt an emotion so painful.

This is what I get for being a a pink haired idiot who doesn't know anything. Natsu thought as he crouched and hugged himself tightly in an  attempted to comfort himself.
