Last night started off with an argument, but the next morning started off with Kalel in my arms.
I didn't remember much from the previous night. I only remembered the sound of screaming throughout the house.
Giving her a glass of Corona to cure her stress was never a bright idea..
I immediately texted Ian.
"I guess I have another Melanie on my hands right now. :/ Wanna hang out today and film a Lunchtime video? :)"
I was expecting to get an early response, but there was no text or call from him at all.
A few minutes later, I had already had a variety of Kalel's favorite breakfast foods ready: Sunnyside up eggs with green tea, turkey bacon, whole wheat toast with minimal butter, pancakes covered with strawberries and whipped cream, and a scoop of avacado. It was the perfect hangover meal. It had taken a while for Kalel to get up, and she was in a surprisingly good mood.
"You feeling okay? I asked her, pouring some green tea into a glass.
"I'm alright. I just have a little headache, but it's not like I drink all the time."
"Thank God. Well by the way, I tried texting Ian this morning and no answer. Anything come up about Melanie?"
"Hell, I don't know. I'm surprised Ian hasn't texted you about some kind of court date."
Melanie had her fair share of run ins with the law; some even involved her going to court to work everything out. She had charges against her including arson (she attempted to burn a neighbor's mailbox and grass when drunk), driving under the influence, and attempting to break in her ex-boyfriend Cooper's house. Some had even reported her to the police complaining about her loud music and 'suspicious activity' around the neighborhood, which was the result of drinking too much.
"Melanie's a mess right now. I'm surprised they haven't decided to put in her some kind of rehab center. I'm kind of worried about Ian."
"You should be.. I mean, he's your best friend." Kalel smiled, planting a kiss on my cheek. "You shouldn't get yourself into their business. I know he's your best friend and all, but just stay distant from their shit."
As soon as we finished our conversation, I tried calling Ian. Unfortunately, there was no answer.
Just one text..
Melanie: I'm out. Dad bailed me out.
Apparently, Melanie was out of the Sacramento County Jail and back to the real world. I was shocked to find out that she didn't have to attend community service or go to rehab. Instead, she was told to go to an Alcoholics Anonymous group for a month, which I highly doubt will help Melanie's days of drinking vanish.
Melanie had asked me to drive to a nearby coffee shop called Boulevard Coffee Roasting. I was guessing Ian wanted nothing to do with her for now, so I drove across town to join her.
She was already there with a wide grin spread across her face. "Hi Anthony." she said, surprisingly cheerful. "I'm sorry if I bothered you. I tried calling and texting Ian, but still no answer. What have you been up to?"
"Nothing really. Just waiting for Ian to call back."
For some odd reason, I was pretty worried about Ian at the moment.. I wasn't sure whether or not he made it home safe.
"Any plans later on today?" she asked.
I didn't remember much from the previous night. I only remembered the sound of screaming throughout the house.
