-Chapter One-

"Elizabeth Dupree!" I heard my name being yelled as I made my escape from yet another Project Seekers' mission.

A smile spread across my face at the mention of my name. Call me an attention freak but it felt good to know that everyone I hated knew my name.

'Kat? Do you have her?' I mind linked Katherine.

'Yea, how is it on your side?' She mind linked back to me.

'Did you really just ask that?' I replied cockily.

She laughed as she replied, 'Getting a big head now, are we.'

Kat and I were somewhat 'best friends' when we were working for Xander. She's telepathic, so why wouldn't he want her?

We weren't friends at first, in fact, we never talked, but she was the only person to ever pin me down, not once but twice, and to actually touch me in a fight, and that was a big accomplishment. Shortest fight ever, but the friendship that became of it was trustworthy and long-lasting.

PROJECT SEEKERS' TRAINING GROUND, 2001

Sweat ran down my face as I went in circles with my opponent. Katherine. I'm usually never nervous when it comes to a fight; I always won, most times with no hits from my opponent. The weird part? I'm only 8.

I've been here since I was 2, fighting is all I've ever seen. Katherine came here when I was 6 and she 12. Her specialty is unknown to me and everyone else, besides the leaders. We've never talked or the simplest nod when passing by, but here I am about to fight her, not knowing what to expect.

We've been going in circles just staring at each other with blank faces for what I assume to be five minutes now. Since she clearly wasn't going to make the first move, I moved forward fast and struck.

That was the first time I got pinned down by her. A collection of gasps was heard throughout the room and everyone froze, including me.

I looked up at her while she looked down at me smiling. How did she do that? That's impossible! I thought to myself.

I studied her for a minute; she looked focused, really focused.

Without thinking, I head butted her. She removed her hands from the grip she had on my arms, and held her head as she groaned in pain.

My head hurt too, but, no pain, no gain, right? Not wasting any time, I pushed her off me and jumped back to my feet.

She was still on her knees holding her head between her hands, did it really hurt that bad? Daddy always said I was hard headed, but this is just ridiculous. It couldn't possibly hurt that much, could it?

Looks like I won this battle.

I walked slowly towards her and stood in front of her, I was a little bit taller than her now that she was kneeling.

Since I have no idea what her power was, I might as well copy it and find out.

I raised my hand to place on her head, but the impossible happened again and once again, she was on top of me, pinning me down.

Confusion was etched onto my face. Again? It was impossible the first time and even more the second.

I studied her once again as she smiled wickedly down at me, well as wicked as a 14 year old could.
