*Introduction*

Everyone has a power.

That's the truth, I'm not exaggerating.

It's a weird system, because your genes don't count for shit; it's all about when you're born.

It's the government who checks when you were born and then they give you your powers.

But these are not crazy powers like flying or super-strength. The powers that we have are either water, earth, fire, or air.

Thankfully, we get to stay with our families and go to school with kids with different availing abilities.

No one knows exactly why the government decided to do it, but I like Fire-availing so it's not a problem.

Oh yeah, I should probably tell you all who I am.

My name is Aurelia Curran. I know-it's unusual. My name is pronounced aw-reel-ya.

My friends are Kriska, Madora, Gaea, and Jacinta.

I know what you're thinking, and everyone has names like that because it's the government that chooses them.

No one has the same name as you.

I guess it's good because no one will confuse you for someone else.

Anyway, about the birthday thing... It depends on your zodiac sign.

Let me group them up for you:

Water - Scorpio, Cancer, Pisces
Fire - Aries, Leo, Sagittarius
Air - Libra, Aquarius, Gemini
Earth - Virgo, Taurus, Capricorn

I'm an Aries so I avail fire, Jacinta and Gaea are Taurus's and so they avail earth, Madora is a Capricorn therefor she falls into the same availing abilities as Gaea and Jacinta, last there is Kriska who is a Libra so she avails air.

Because of these availing abilities, we don't always have the same classes.

And that's where we are now.

I've been in High School for two years and now I'm starting my third.

Unfortunately, it's not the easy kind of high school with all the popular people and stuff.

Around here, this school would seem like any other, but if you look at it reality-wise, it's pretty weird.

My "only fire" classes are: Controlling Flame 103, Ogień pipe playing: it's an instrument that makes you shoot flames through pipes to make music) and Ancient Fire Dancing (because there was no way I would do fire foot: a sport that requires too much running, and is just like another well known sport: soccer).
Be aware; these are just the standard courses for Fire-availers; other ability users have different course names, and we barely have any in common.

Jacinta, Gaea and Madora's classes that they only have with Earth-availers are: Controlling Stone 103, Ancient Earth dancing, and Rise ball (Gaea doesn't do this one): a sport that requires you to run a track while using your Earth-availing to move a ball all the way to the finish line, it can be played in teams or individually, and you can take the ball from anyone].

Kriska's Air-availing only classes are: Controlling Wind 103, Air footing: a sport that is like fire foot but with air balls but this is played somewhere with walls because air benders learn to almost "fly" and can use that to score] and kite racing: this is a really cool sport that has you use these kite things that you're attached to and you use your Air-availing to make yourself fly and race].

Water-availing classes are: Controlling Drops 103, Water Hoop: a sport that has you go in the middle of a body of water while using your water-availing to get a ball all the way up and through a hoop] and Adam's Ale Sculpting (it's sculpting but with water.

I look down at the sheet in my hand.

Courses all availers share
-History of the Elements: Availing is not used in this class because we only get lectures and sometimes do projects.

-Chemistry: We get to use our availing abilities in this class, and everyone has to be a part of a group with four people who all control different elements.

-Creative Aspects of Balance: We learn how to balance all of the emotions our element relies on and the other emotions so that if we're ever fighting we don't lose control.

-Ability Course 103: This is kind of a sports class. We get into teams and learn how to fight and use our elements for offense or defense.

"Fun," I mutter sarcastically, laying back on my dorm bed.

I wonder when my roommate will get here.

So remember that thing I mentioned about staying with your families?

Well we don't exactly live with them when we're in High School.

My High School is a boarding school, so yes, we have dorm rooms and sadly, most of my neighbors are boys.

I know what you're thinking 'How can you be a girl on the same floor as guys?'

Well this High School supports "the friendly connection between young men and women".

Basically, they want us all to become friends, but that's not going to happen.

The dorm rooms aren't big, but only two or three people per room.

I am actually on the Fire-availers floor so my dorm-mate is a Fire-availer and everyone around me is one too.

Jacinta, Gaea, and Madora are all on the Earth-availers floor and they are roommates.

Kriska's floor is the highest since they can Air-avail up there.

So that's pretty much what life is like in my school.

It's just normal, boring High School.
