A/N IMPORTANT: This story has A LOT of warnings and I will spare no expense when writing, there will be a lot of mature content in this. I don't want to have to mark this story as such, but if you cannot handle anything listed by the TW in the about this story, please do not read this. This will mostly be in Sirius' point of view, but there will be scenes with Remus' pov and James' pov. Regulus is the same age because I need a consistent example for Sirius in school of what he doesn't want to be.
"Goodbye, dear. Remember what I told you." Mother wagged her finger at me as if she were reprimanding me for a crime I did not yet commit.
"Yes, mother. 'If you don't get into Slytherin, I will come down to the school myself to put you in that house.' I understand." I sighed. Eleven years of my mother raising me to be a Slytherin was exhausting.
However, Regulus was simply beaming at our father who was telling him the exact same thing.
The train started up and I grabbed my bags.
"Goodbye, Sirius! Don't disappoint me!" She warned as I darted onto the train, without sparing another glance at her.
"So, where would you like to sit?" Regulus asked, grinning at me.
"Anywhere you're not." I sighed, pushing my hair out of my face.
"What?" Regulus' smile fell as he looked back at me.
"Listen, I'll sit with you all you want when we get to school. Just let me sit on my own now, yeah? Besides, it'll give you a chance to make some friends."
Regulus sighed. "I suppose." He muttered then wandered off to find a compartment.
I finally relaxed. It's not that I didn't care about my family, I just wanted to be more than what they had in store for me. I realised this one day in Diagon Alley. There was a boy there, about the same age as me. He was with his parents and he was kind. I know that may not sound like much, but when you live in the house I did for eleven years. Kindness is a disease.
But this boy, he seemed genuinely happy. He was able to run around the store without getting yelled at, he even had fun doing it. He didn't hurt anybody, but instead, he made jokes with them.
When I arrived back home after that, I realised that I wanted to be like that boy. I wanted to be happy and not have to worry about getting in trouble for it. Ever since then, I worked to become everything that boy was and everything my family was not.
This lead to my parents being more strict than usual and pushing me towards Slytherin every chance they got.
I sighed and pulled my belongings with me towards the compartments. Maybe, I'll finally find friends that understand that I don't want to be part of the pureblood, inbred, muggle-hating family that my last name carries.
Eventually, I found an empty compartment and I slumped down in the seat, dropping my bags carelessly beside me. This was going to be a rough year. If I could catch some shut-eye before the train arrived at Hogwarts, it might make this all slightly less terrible. I closed my eyes when almost automatically, there was a knocking at the compartment door.
There goes that plan.
I groaned and unwillingly opened my eyes to see a boy with shaggy brown hair and a thin frame waving shyly at me. I gestured for him to walk in and he opened the door slowly as if worried that he would upset me even though I signalled that it was okay for him to come in. I frowned, wondering why he could be so frightened when I saw what he was looking at.
My bags. With the last name, Black embedded into them. I rolled my eyes. I can never get away from this family. Can I?
Finally, he walked in and sat down shakily across from me.
