"First years! First years follow me, please!" A professor with short black hair called and soon a line started behind her.
"Come on." James grabbed my arm and pulled me towards the line.
Snivellus passed by us with the red-haired girl and sneered.
I glared and James just laughed. "Don't mind him. We'll have plenty of time to annoy the greasy-haired git during classes."
I nodded and pushed the hair out of my eyes. "Where did Remus and Peter go?" I asked glancing down at the line.
"They should be-"
All of a sudden, Remus and Peter came running off the train and running up to us.
"You left your wand." Remus handed me my wand.
"Bloody hell! Thanks, Remus." I hugged him and put my wand in my trunk.
He blushed. "I-It was no big deal."
"Of course, it was a big deal! If I showed up on my first day without a wand..."
"You'd be dead." James laughed.
"Exactly!"
"Well, y-you're welcome." He stammered before standing behind us. Peter practically his behind the three of us.
"What was that about?" I muttered to James.
"No idea." He shrugged.
We walked over to the boats and the professor turned to all of us.
"All right everyone! I'm going to need all to get into the boats in a calm and orderly-."
Everyone darted up to the first row of boats, desperate to not to trudge through the murky waters just to get to a single boat.
I piled into one with James, Remus, Peter and we all grinned we saw the company we had in the boat. Everyone had rushed to a boat so quickly that we didn't have time to run to the other three and make sure that we were together. It was kill or be killed.
"Well!" The professor exclaimed, finally grasping her bearings. "This should be a fun year." She remarked, climbing inside her own boat. She cast a silent charm and all the boats began to gradually move towards the school without the need of ores.
A smile ran across my face as I got a closer view of the school I would be in for months to come. I glanced around at the other boys in the boat and realized, as long as all four of us stayed friends, this year wouldn't be so bad after all.
When we arrived at the school, we all climbed out of the boat. Peter tripped and fell a few times, nearly landing himself in the mud when James and I caught his arms and pulled him out of the boat.
I grinned up at the castle. I was finally home. I wouldn't have to spend every minute concerned with how I should be acting and if I was pleasing my mother or father, I was finally free.
Unless, of course, I ended up in Slytherin.
The smile fell from my face almost automatically.
"What's wrong mate?" James questioned the second he noticed my less than ecstatic appearance.
"What if I get into Slytherin?" I muttered so only he could hear. I didn't need others concerned with my lineage.
"Blimey, don't think about that! I don't think you'll end up there, and if you do what does it matter! I know you now before sorting, and I'll tell you what: you're not Slytherin. Those blokes are pompous and arrogant and all around big-headed, you're nothing like that, so you don't need to worry."
