'What is life without a little risk?'

HP, OotP

*****************

Selene's POV:

People were piling in at different times.

We had forcibly made the rule that no student under their fourth year could enter the party. Instead, we asked the help of a handful of third years to stealthily guard, and if they did then they were guaranteed an invite next year.

There was fire whiskey, normal whiskey and butterbeer flowing everywhere. People were dancing, and people were socialising. It was reassuring seeing so many familiar faces with giant smiles plastered on their lips.

Every year, Emilie and I didn't dare go near a drop of alcohol, (smuggled by my cousin, James). Due to antics that happen every year.

The biggest scandal, making this year's event more popular was the fact that a 16 year old boy, in his sixth year got extremely drunk and kissed a 15 year old girl, who was in her fourth year. The boy was mortified but the girl definitely gained Hogwarts credentials. I think I can still remember her name.

Anyway; when alcohol and the chance to kiss an older boy that they could fancy came into the gossip, it became more popular; but we had to make invites early to avoid over crowding  and all that jazz. I put more effort into this than I did with any of my homework.

'Nice work you've done here.' A familiar voice echoed.

Cedric Diggory, of course.

'Ah!' I panicked, accidentally overspilling my drink from him coming up to me from behind.

'Sorry, Sorry.' He apologised. 'Let me help.' He said, grabbing some tissue and soaking up the liquid. I was trying to hide the fact that I could feel my face heat up and I was probably as red as a tomato.

'Thanks.' I smiled gratefully, leaning forward to sip some of the substance of my drink before picking it up. I was scared that if my hand wavered slightly my hand would be drenched because of how full my cup was. And it was bloody hard to keep my hands still considering how nervous he made me.

'How you feeling?' I asked him, looking up into his eyes.

'Alright actually. Pretty good. So many people have congratulated me tonight and obviously the drink is making me feel a bit merry so yeah, I'm feeling really good. Thanks for all this effort, Selene. It's really cool of you.'

'It's cool that everyone made effort to try and fit into the theme, shame the Slytherin's are too cool for muggles that they didn't want to come. Oh well.' I shrugged, taking another sip of my drink happily.

Now there were more people in the room, the music had been drowned out by different people's conversations that were all going on in the room.

'How do people sneak back out after the party?' Cedric said, with an eyebrow raised. He was obviously worried about his prefect positions if he was caught.

'It's clearly risky, but there's only about 50 people here and I'd say a solid 15 of us are Huffle puff, so that leaves around thirty to get back, right?'

Cedric nodded

'Basically, we get people to leave at different times, so its only around 10 people leaving at once. It's pitch black in the halls and if worst came to worst, a simple confundus charm would do the trick.'

Cedric looked alarmed but nodded once again.

'However, two years ago a drunk seventh year commanded his friend to transfigure him into a rat to run back to the Gryffindor common room. Only issue is that the next day he was still a rat, and his friend was hungover and poorly transfigured him back and he had to go to Pomfrey. I don't recommend it.' I blabbered on.

I suddenly became conscious of the fact that I was blabbering so much and remained silent for a bit. Cedric just chuckled fondly at me and smiled warmly, taking a polite sip from his drink.

Great. There's absolutely no chance. He treats me like the annoying fourth year that I am. I made eye contact with Cormac out the corner of my eye and I took that as my excuse to break off from Cedric, despite the fact I was enjoying just being with him.

'I'm gonna go, I haven't spoken to Emilie or Dante all night.' I lied. I finished off my drink, before pouring a small shot size of whiskey, quickly drinking it before receiving the bollocking from Cormac I think I was about to get.

'What.' I said irritably. Whether it's the drink or me being fed up of his attitude I wasn't too sure.

'Alright calm down. Just haven't spoken to you yet so wanted to chat.' He said. I knew he was lying. It's because two of his friends he came with had left and he had nobody to talk to, and he was stood like a melon by himself.

'Sure.' I said through gritted teeth.

'What's into you?' He said, obviously getting annoyed at me.

'You are so two faced!' I burst out. 'You are so rude, making me submit commands for you then when I want the same things you act as if I am not worthy of the same.'

'Well you aren't, are you? You are a girl. You can't make demands. That's so manly.'

I stood, my mouth open in shock.

'Did you just say that?' I cried. I felt a arm around my shoulder. I looked to see Emilie and Dante by my side.

'Don't be such a misoygnist Cormac.' Emilie defended.

'Don't be so sensitive Emilie.' He spat.

'Yeah? Well you know what I think Cormac? I think-'

'You shouldn't think, Emilie. You are far too pretty for that. You might hurt yourself.'

Emilie didn't even flinch before casting her wand out at Cormac.

'Not a fair battle now is it? You were all so set on making it a muggle party you confiscated everyones wands.'

'Do I look like I care, McLaggen?'

Before any more words could be said, she swished her wand swiftly and before I knew it, Cormac was being transformed into a snake.

'The creature you are.' She spat before walking away.

'Oh for Gods sake, I don't like the kid one bit but he's just going to snitch on us, isn't he?' Dante whined. 'Confundus.' A light yellow colour emitted from the wand and hit the snake.

'Atleast he won't know what's going on. I'll turn him back and let him wonder down the halls, confused. A teacher will probably punish him. He deserves it.'

Dante wrapped the snake around his arm and left swiftly. Emilie was so angry that she had stormed off, I think to seek comfort in ranting to Seamus.

Throwing all my body weight onto the sofa, I could feel a familiar warm fuzz in my stomach. I was feeling really dizzy. I only felt an awful feeling of nausea when I saw a view not far infront of me. It was Cedric holding the back of Cho's neck softly, and he was kissing her in the corner of the room, but in everybody's view.

I froze, my cup resting on my lip as I instantly tore my eyes away painfully and slumped further onto the sofa seat, lifting my feet up o my knees rested underneath my chin. I understood how ridiculous I was being. Cedric owed me nothing, and I didn't owe Cedric anything. So why was there a lump forming in my throat and my eyes felt like they were filling up slowly.

Thankfully, Harry sat next to me. It went downhill from there. Tears escaped my eyes but they fell silently. I wasn't making a sound. He didn't even notice I was crying until he reached over and put his hand in mine.

'What happened? You look like you've seen a ghost?'

'Much worse.' I spat.

I pointed him begrudgingly in the direction that the two were still kissing, and he fell silent. This night had borderline been a disaster.
