-Ashley's POV-
I looked out the car window to see the sunrise. I glanced at the clock: 6:18 AM. We have been in the car for about 10 hours driving to San Francisco. "Mom, are you sure you don't want me to drive for a little while? You've been driving ever since we left. Get some rest" I offered to my mom. She looked exhausted. "I'm fine sweetie. Look we're almost there anyway." She pointed to a sign on the side of the highway that read 'San Francisco-3 miles'.
Three miles later I started to see the busy city of San Francisco. "We're going to stay with family friends for a couple weeks until we find an apartment to live in. It might be a little awkward at first but you'll get used to it." "Why don't we stay in a hotel?" I asked. "Because" she started, sounding frustrated, "I can't afford to spend 2 weeks in a hotel. They're expensive around here; more than $100 a night. You'll be just fine" She assured me. I sighed, but I was glad mom was finally doing something to get away from dad. That wasn't the first time he had come home drunk and acted like that.
We had arrived at the Jones' house at around 7 AM and had our things unpacked by 7:30. They lived right in the middle of the city, so there was a lot of street noise. Great, another 2 weeks of sleepless nights.
The next day, my mom called me into her room after lunch. She was sitting on the bed on her laptop. "Come help me choose a place, dear" She said. She sounded better now that she had gotten some sleep. I plopped down next to her and we looked for an hour before we found the perfect place. "What do you think? It's right for my budget and it has lots of space. It's even got a pool, I know you'd enjoy that." She was right; I needed to work on my tan for the summer, plus it would be fun to just go and hang there on hot summer days. "I love it mom. Go for it". She smiled wide and sent an e-mail to the landlord. "Now we just wait until we get a response and see what happens from there." She still had that huge smile on her face. She then reached out her arms for a hug. We sat there for what felt like years in each others arms. "I love you mom" I said breaking the silence. "I love you too, Ash." she said back. I loved these moments me and my mom had, and without my dad in my life it was only going to get better.
After dinner we checked to see if we got anything back. We did, and we were going to meet the landlord there at noon tomorrow. I've lived on the west coast all my life, but I've always wanted to go to California. Now that I'll live here, it's like a dream come true.

A/N
I know this chapter sucks, I guess it's kind of a filler chapter. :/ Next chapter will be better, I promise. I kinda rushed the events, only because I didn't want to take too long on them. Chapter 3 coming soon! :*
