It was Saturday evening, a warm and lovely breeze flying across the air.

I walked with Tanner down the sidewalk, my head leaning on his shoulder.

"Congrats on your win," I smiled.

"Thanks," he said. "Can you believe that our freshman year is done?" he asked me. "I can't. I mean, so much has happened."

"I know," I admitted. "I feel like it was last week I was scrambling out of bed to get ready for the first day."

Tanner sighed. "A lot has happened."

"You said that already." I glanced at him. "But I loved the stress. I mean, at times, it was just out of control. But I'm glad I was able to handle it maturely. At the same time, I'm ready for somewhat of a less hectic schedule."

"That's good," Tanner said.

We were quiet for a while.

"Can I ask you something?" Tanner asked finally.

"Sure," I said.

"What do you think of Mason and Alyssa dating?" he asked, smiling.

I burst out laughing. "Oh my god, when she first told me I was like, you're joking. He's two years younger than she is!"

"But he is taller," Tanner pointed out.

"True, but still!" I giggled. "But they make a good couple."

"I have to agree on that one." Tanner's eyes were distant. "At least one of our fairytales ended up coming true."

"What was yours?" I asked curiously.

Tanner didn't respond.

Uh, okay then.

"So..." I said, changing the subject. "What are you doing this summer?"

"Nothing much," Tanner said. "I'm thinking of doing some volunteering here and there. How about you?"

"I got a letter from TSN today," I said, thinking this was the perfect time to mention my new summer job. "I got a job as an intern!"

"Get out!" Tanner gasped. "That's amazing!"

"Yeah," I said. "I sent them an application a while ago, along with a bunch of my essays and videos of my hockey games, and they accepted me. I don't get paid, but I get all my volunteer credit."

"That's sweet," Tanner said. "You're so lucky. And I'm really proud of you."

"Thanks," I said, awfully pleased.

"Let's go over to Mason's," Tanner said, "I'm sure he and Lyss and Kylie want to know."

"Kylie and Alyssa already know, they were with me when I got the letter this morning," I said as he dragged me over to Mason's house.

"What?" Tanner pretended to be offended. "Them before me?"

"Sorry," I said apologetically. "I started squealing there in the kitchen and they were like, TELL ME!"

Tanner laughed as he rang Mason's doorbell. "I'm joking, Bree," he said.

Mason opened the door. "Hey guys, come in!"

We followed him downstairs, where a whole bunch of the soccer team and a few girls were.

"Having a party?" I asked Mason.

"You bet," he grinned. "I'm celebrating our big win over Copperdale."

Yeah, the boys soccer team had beaten Copperdale as well, just like the girls hockey team. Talk about a double whammy.
