"No dad, I don't want these!"
"Leon come on, it's pastries. Just try them and tell me what you think" Luke said and pushed the plate over to his son, but Leon pushed it away with a face of distaste.
Luke didn't get it. They contained sugar and Leon was a kid; sugar was the only thing he ate.
"No, they've got some weird green mush on it, I don't want that" Leon spoke again and shook his head, firmly determined to not taste his father's new creations.
"It's mousse, not mush. And you're in my kitchen, you either eat it or get out" Luke spoke and pushed the plate over to Leon again. Leon rolled his eyes.
"Oh thanks dad, I can really feel the appreciation" Leon spoke before going back to munching on his cereal. Luke kept pushing the plate over at his son, annoying him further as he jabbed it against his forearm.
"Dad!"
"Just taste it! I need to know if they're good enough to put on the menu" Luke whined, a nearly childish pout showing on his face as he looked at his son with pleading eyes.
"No, leave me alone" Leon spoke without glancing up from the random gossip magazine he had found in the kitchen, probably belonging to Peach.
"Oh thanks bud, I can really feel the appreciation," Luke said, repeating his son's previous sarcastic comment, earning a content chuckle from Leon.
"Where's your sister? She will help her poor father out" Luke spoke again, letting the plate stay put on the table and looked around the spacious kitchen.
"I don't know" Leon spoke and shrugged before sliding his bowl of cereal over to his father, grinning contently when Luke pushed the pastries away with a sigh and took the spoon to start eating. "Where's your husband?"
"I don't know" Luke spoke through a mouthful of milk and cereal, mimicking his son's actions when shrugging as well. Leon chuckled before closing the magazine and turned his body fully to his father.
"Some husband you are" Leon spoke sarcastically, causing Luke to breathe out a laugh before reaching over and hooking an arm around his son's neck and pulled him to his chest, digging his knuckles into Leon's scalp.
"Some son you are," Luke spoke and laughed when Leon pushed away from him and ran his hands through his tussled hair with a frustrated look on his face. "You used to compliment me all the time when you were younger, you know? You thought I was a really really cool dad"
"Well, sucks for you, but I grew up and realized you're not the slightest bit cool" Leon spoke and patted his father's shoulder with a sympathetic expression on his face.
Luke snorted sarcastically before dipping a hand in the bowl of milk and soggy cereal, flinging a few drops of milk over at his son. Leon gasped before reaching over at the bowl, accidentally dipping his whole hand in it and threw a few soggy cereal pieces at Luke, making the bowl wobble from left to right before spilling everything out on the kitchen island.
"Why?" Luke whined with a sigh and picked a few pieces of cereal away from his shirt before looking at the mess on the table.
"What do you mean 'why'?" Leon asked and laughed, "You started it!"
Luke glanced away from the mess to look at his son, and immediately a smile spread on his face. There was not a second of the day where Leon couldn't do anything but make Luke smile.
Leon was all grown up, a full on teenager now, and Luke wanted to cry his eyes out at the thought of it- like he had done the morning of his kids every birthdays- but he didn't. Even though it was emotional to watch your kids grow up to be their own independent human beings, Luke just had to smile and enjoy the fact that he was a part of it all.
