This semester by some miracle, all my friends and I have the same period free. Of course it is only third period on Wednesday. But still cool considering we are 2 Sophomores, 3 Juniors and a Senior.
I walk outside to meet my friends. It is February, so technically still Winter. But I am from New York, so February in Virginia is like early summer in New York. We meet in the same spot each week, under the big willow tree. There are two picnic tables there, so it is a good spot to hang out for an hour.
As I get closer, the first person I see is Reign. He is 15, taller then I am by about 6 inches. His blonde hair is long enough to cover his eyes, so he is always pushing it out of the way to see. Reign is smart, but he is also the embodiment of stupid teenage boy. He loves to do things that most sane people would think are stupid and dangerous. Maybe he thinks that too, but he does it anyway. He has a record for most detentions in our school. But he's not a bad kid, he just does stupid things.
Reign is looking up at the tree talking to someone. I look up and see it is Nikky. Nikky's real name is Nikoli Savone, but no one calls him Nikoli, no one. He is also 15, but a few months younger then Reign. Nikky is short like me, but I keep telling him, he's gonna get taller. He's also skinnier then most, but it makes him a fast runner. He is also really hyper, like to much sugar and he might explode hyper. Nikky and Reign are frenemies. One day they are best friends, the next they are trying to kill each other (not literally but I think you know what I mean). We never know what they will be like day today. The seem to be friendly today though, thankfully.
Suddenly Nikky falls out of the tree, that is when I notice Brenda sitting on one of the picnic tables laughing. Brenda is 16 like me, she's taller though, and has a bigger build. I am convinced that if she wanted to she could take out anyone with a punch or two. She has real short black hair, that is always died with different color streaks, today is purple. She, like Reign, likes to do stupid things, she just doesn't do it as often.
I walk over to Nikky who is still on the ground, I offer a hand, and help him up.
"At least someone cares," he says to me.
Reign and Brenda who just stopped laughing, notice I am here.
"Hey Angie, what's happenin'?" asks Reign.
"Not much," I say, "Got an A on my Science Project and History Paper."
"That's not a surprise, you always get A's," says Brenda.
"I don't know how you do it with all the other stuff you do," says Nikky, "I mean you're always busy, yet you still get A's."
"Well I make time for my homework everyday, instead of playing video games."
Brenda laughs, she knows who I mean. Nikky and Reign are smart, but they spend more time with video games then homework. If they didn't I am sure they'd be getting A's like me.
I hear some laughter from behind me, and turn around to see my last to friends walking towards us, Eddie and Lana.
Lana Barker is the senior in our group, so she is 17. She's taller than me, with long curly black hair. I met her the summer after I moved here, at a program at the library. Found out she lives right down the street from me. We became fast friends. Lana is smart, kind and caring. She's different than my others friends, but still different from me. She's the only one of us who has a job, at the Bakery near the town square. Because of it though she's always bringing us free treats.
And last but never least, Eddie Wright. He is 16, about Reign's height, maybe a little taller and short brown hair. Eddie is insanely smart. He is in Advanced Placement in all of his classes, while I only have AP Math. He gets A's all the time to. We challenge each other, to always get A's. Even though he is smart, he also has a good sense of humor. Which is one of his best qualities.
