Before you start reading (or if you want to reference this later) I'm going to go over a few things you should know about this alternate fantastical world. It's all explained in the book, but in case you forget or stuff gets confusing here's a list of some things you should know.

Selkie: A man or woman who can transform into a seal by lying in a seal skin until it wraps around them and they become the seal.

Aventine: Aventine is the country where most of the book takes place. It parallels England in our world as it is a large island adjacent to two smaller islands, Albany and Ater

PA: EA stands for Penrex Academy which is where Sloane and her friends go to school. It is a military school and the largest one in Aventine.

Cora Rex: Cora Rex is mentioned a few times because she was gave up being queen in 1789 to become the first president of Aventine. Her daughter Esperanza proceeded her in 1835-1843.

Cassidy Franklin: Cassidy Franklin was the last president of Aventine from 1891-1899. After that began the war of the Roses in which there has been no leader from 1899-1939

White Roses: The White Roses want to integrate the sea people such as Selkies and want everyone to be treated equally. They consist mostly of elderly, rich people.

Red Roses: These people are sure that bringing the sea people into Aventine will bring chaos and destruction. They consist of mostly middle class men.

Slimer: Slang word for Selkies. Considered very rude.

Rexion: The name of the castle where the kings and queens use to live. Now it is used for the senate and court so is sometimes just called the senate house

Bethelhelm: A country across the Poseideon Ocean that Aventine wants to conquer. It is infested with Avians which are bird people.

I'm working on a map to show you guys more clearly where these countries are and will hopefully be able to post it soon. Thanks for reading!
