Brianna looked at Eric. She saw in his face that he didn't want to talk about it. "Sorry, "she said.
"It's fine. I just don't want to talk about it right now." said Eric
"I understand"
" You know, I remember you."
" You do? What do you mean?" asked Brianna, confused.
"I remember you from before. Before what happened. "
"Oh. I kind of remember you. You look familiar but I don't know where I saw you. "
"Can I ask you when you birthday is? "
"It's May 12th. Why? "
"I think I know how we know each other."
"How? "
"Are you sure you want to know?" Brianna nodded. " I think. I think we are twins."
"What!? Why would you think that?!!! "Brianna yelled in her tiny voice, clearly not liking his theory.
"Think about it. We have the same exact eyes. Same birthday. Same hair color. We have the same skin color and everything."Said Eric, still calm, opposite of Brianna.
Brianna realized he was right, but still she didn't want it to be true. She took off running through the forest away from Eric.
Once she was out of breath she sat down and started crying. She cried about a lot of things. She cried about her mom. She cried about her parents abandoning her. She cried about missing home. She cried about finding out Eric was her twin. Oh why didn't they tell me. Instead of him. Once she couldn't cry anymore she went back to where she had run from. Eric was still there. He understood why she ran. He knew she would come back when she was ready. So he waited. While he was waiting for her he also started a fire since it was getting colder.
"Do you still wanna know what happened to me? "
"No. Its fine."
"Are you sure? You are my sister. You deserve to know."
"I guess but won't it be hard for you. It'll be like you are reliving your past. "
"No. Its fine. Really. I thought about how I would tell you when you were gone."
"Okay. But once it gets too hard for you, you need to know that you can stop. "
"Okay. Thank you. So um. I was 2 years old. A guy was trying to kidnap me and you. Mom and Dad were at work and Moms sister was watching us. She got us into safe but she didn't get herself to safety. She was killed that night. I came out of the hiding spot and I was kidnapped. After that there was a fire. I was brought to the woods and the kidnapper thought I would die. Clearly I didn't." Brianna sat quietly listening, only nodding her head in understanding. She looked at him and he had a far away look in his eyes. The eyes she had the same.
"How did you survive for 6 years?"
"A pack of wolves found me. They took care of me. I guess I was their pup. "
"If you remember, how come I don't? Was I awake?"
"I know you grabbed my arm and said no before I went out. So yes, you were awake. But I don't know why you don't remember. I think our parents got that part of your memory removed or something. But of course they couldn't do that to me because, well, I was here. In the forest."
"Do they still take care of you? The wolves I mean."
"Can we talk about something else now please."
Brianna hadn't noticed until now that he had started to cry. Or maybe he hadn't started to cry until now. But something happened to the wolves. He changed the subject after she brought them up again.
"Okay. So, what's for dinner? I have cans of vegetables in my back pack. Or--" Eric cut her off.
"We need to hunt."
